MKG is going to have a Joakim Noah effect on whoever drafts him. He's not the best or even second best player on the team, but when he's out things just go to s**t.

I didn't mean to say that their playing styles were similar. Sorry for the inconvenience. I just feel that... He does what he does with using his athleticism. Bulldozing through the paint. Making hustle plays. He's not much of a skilled player. So he'll struggle a lot on offense. And even if he turns out to be a great defender as he's advertised (I feel like he's overrated in that side of the court also), he won't be able to anchor a defense a la those hustle bigs do. He's likely to have a very limited role when it's said and done. His stock is high because he's helped his team win a 'chip as a freshman, but if it weren't for Anthony Davis, we'd be talking late lottery for MKG. Best case scenario is prime Gerald Wallace with lesser stealing and blocking ability, IMO.

Maybe he's the injured piece we've been missing since garbojosa. Perhaps even a superstar garbo. Get er done BC, get er done.

Let's playin for 9th!

I agree that he'll slip, but not that far. I think he'll be the first wing taken, but some of the bigs will probably go higher. I could see two of Sully, Drummond, Robinson, PJIII go 2nd, 3rd, and then MKG will go 4th or maybe 5th.
I'm predicting Beal & Barnes go ahead of MKG on draft night.
I agree with you man. Beal will go second to Was, while Cavs always liked Barnes. MGK will
go 4th or 5th.

About 10% right? Not great odds, but certainly not in the 'slim to non' territory.

If Toronto did draft him they would have the worst jump-shooting wings in the league.

Clearly defense is the difference between winning and losing for this team.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Not that I don't like MKG, but I kind of feel like we'd be one of the least best fits for him. Part of the appeal of MKG is that if he was a hockey player, he'd be the type that people are saying "That guy's going to wear the C one day" as soon as he's drafted. IE Gabriel Landeskog was a guaranteed future captain pick by Colorado. He's great for Sacramento, Washington or Charlotte to start having a winning mentality.
But we kind of have that right now. There's a reason we're picking 8th and not 3rd despite our horrible talent. We have Derozan, we have James Johnson, we have Dwane Casey. I don't know if it's AS imperative for us to have an intangibles first player like this. Our need is offensive talent moreso than a culture change

It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

These threads will only be taken seriously after May 30th. Most of these guys don't mean a thing for us.

I do not look like the Prospect at all,
But the MKG 2012 pre draft workout VIDEO was one the most impressive 3-minutes(Emphasize 3 minutes) workout footage I have ever seen from any Basketball player.
Hope his body handles it as it is still developing

MKG actually isn't that bad of a shooter. I don't know what happened after the Christmas break, but prior to that I remember him shooting ~32% from 3-pt. A few minor tweaks here and there like tucking his shooting elbow in, and he'll be good to go. With his outstanding work ethic, I think it's very possible. He always has the hunger to improve and is never satisfied with his game. But the Raptors should have a very good dribble-drive game with DeMar and MKG on the wing.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

ballocks wrote:I think MKG is the gold standard. He might not be a good fit on Charlotte, for example, but he basically fits our "job posting" like a glove. I hope against hope that we can find a way to move up and snag him. He would reinforce our cultural shift, for starters, and come in with the reputation of not only else. If it means losing our 2013 first, so be it. The obsession with 'depth' is killing us, though, imho; I don't think the 'interchangeability' between our first and second units is necessarily a good thing.
I don't want to break down his game under a microscope. That's been done many times over. I just think this is a player/attitude we need to acquire and we need to find a way to do it (like the Washington Redskins and RG3, for example). Tony Wroten, Terrence Jones and Dion Waiters are all promising kids, but they don't make sense in Toronto right now for all the reasons in the world- most of which have nothing to do with them.
peace
I'd argue being a winner is pretty subjective. Is MKG a winner, simply for playing on a stacked team including Davis? NCAA, comes down to single games series, simply getting hot at the right time can get it done, or going cold at the wrong time can knock you out.
Was michael jordan always a winner? Before he won, many didn't think so...too selfish, didn't make his teammates better, etc. etc. Is lebron a winner? Is steve kerr (he won on san antonio too lol)? Hypotheticly say rodman was traded for karl malone and the bulls won 5 championships and utah 1 Malone would go down in history as a winner. I dunno I'm going off on a tangent here, but hopefully I'm making some sort of point.

I just think most teams ahead of us can make a compelling argument to take other players ahead of MKG and that he is going to have an anxious wait in the green room. His stock right now is inflated, more than any other player in the lottery and it doesn't match his current skill-set/upside.
I'd say there is a decent chance he is still on the board when the warriors pick. The problem for the raptors is that they will likely take him!

Oh good lord. Beal possibly, Drummond and T-Robb, also possibly, but less likely. Barnes? No frickin' way.

Only way Barnes goes ahead of MKG is if Wash or Clev are drunk on Barnes.

Not a lot of people use this comparison for MKG. But there are lots of similarities between MKG and Kawhi Leonard.
Both are good athletes, works hard, great rebounders. Jump shot is a work in progress in college.

His work out vid looked eh but I bet he impresses in the player vs. player workouts.
