I think Dwight stays and won't want to take the backlash of making this organization fire Stan only to leave right after. I think the organization knows we have a really good shot at keeping him.

Signing Brook Lopez to a long term deal and Marshon Brooks is the equivalent of losing Dwight for nothing. It makes no damn difference.

Unless... We also get the #1 pick as well. I would rather just keep Dwight, but don't underestimate the value of a #1 pick player like Anthony Davis.

Sure enough, and in that case it makes things interesting. But chances are against that occurring, so I tend to not even factor it in. If that was the case though, I'd trade Lopez and Marshon away for better players or better draft picks. I just don't think either fulfill either of their roles well.

People need to realize that Alex Martins ain't playing checkers he's playing Chess. The ball is in Dwight's court. Can he afford another PR hit by requesting another trade? Just sit back and let the master work 8-)

The only thing I'll miss about Otis are the "I like this team" jokes.

Dwight won't have to request a trade, he just has to refuse to sign an extension at this point, or until he feels the team has made significant enough changes. so the ball is still in the Magic's court. Dwight won't look half as bad if he manages to keep quiet and sticks to the line "i'm going to explore my options at the end of the season", because that's a perfectly acceptable and rational approach.

if Alex quickly places an ultimatum in front of Dwight, then he's no longer playing chess, he's playing chicken.

Listening to some of you Dwight would have been gone last deadline. Just keep quiet and watch the master

Just heard the news so please excuse my New York vernacular but......I'm straight cheesing right now son......i love it.....some good memories.....some bad ones....i very much welcome a clean slate....Now maybe we can convince Dwight that we want to change the culture around here.....let's see who we interview first.....I'm sure Pritchard and Walsh might be interviewed.....D'Antoni could be interviewed as well....all in all i'm glad it happened today and not a second later lol.....When i think about it we have a coveted job....New Arena....Owner willing to spend....Dwight Still on the roster......for now....there could be a lot of interest in this gig....both GM and Coach....

STRAP-IN!
Alex Kennedy ‏@AlexKennedyNBA

I'm hearing that the Magic will begin their search for a new general manager this week. Sources says they're scheduling interviews tomorrow.

I'm hoping Walsh as president and Pritchard as GM. Finally, for my pipe dream, throw tons of cash at Phil and we're MUCH better off. Talk about being truly committed to winning a championship:

President: Walsh
GM: Pritchard
Coach: Phil
Superstar: Dwight

I would happily support that team and it's management.

there's a fine line between master and failure when the stakes are this high.

Mother. Of. God.

Exclusive: Howard wants trade despite Magic ousting Van Gundy, Smith
Dwight Howard wants out of Orlando, the events of today notwithstanding, a source close to Howard tells SheridanHoops.com

On the day coach Stan Van Gandy and general manager Otis Smith lost their jobs with the Magic, a source who has spoken with Howard recently said the All-Star center desperately wants to be traded prior to the start of next season.

And although the Brooklyn Nets are still considered the frontrunner, “it is not going to be a one-horse race,” the source said, listing the Mavericks, Knicks and — to a lesser degree — the Clippers and Lakers as among the destinations that would appeal to Howard.

Not even surprised that something like this would come out now. I'm not gonna be jerked around by the media again. I just really hope that the organization does not let this situation linger like it did this past season.
