Exclusive: Howard wants trade despite Magic ousting Van Gundy, Smith
Dwight Howard wants out of Orlando, the events of today notwithstanding, a source close to Howard tells SheridanHoops.com

On the day coach Stan Van Gandy and general manager Otis Smith lost their jobs with the Magic, a source who has spoken with Howard recently said the All-Star center desperately wants to be traded prior to the start of next season.

And although the Brooklyn Nets are still considered the frontrunner, “it is not going to be a one-horse race,” the source said, listing the Mavericks, Knicks and — to a lesser degree — the Clippers and Lakers as among the destinations that would appeal to Howard.

Whether this is true or not is irrelevant. Dwight is under contract for another year, which means, at minimum, we hang on to him for half a season and see if we can't persuade him via the moves we make, starting by hiring a new GM and new coach. We'll see how Dwight feels after speaking with the new front office personnel, and after that, we'll see how he feels once we round out the roster, make draft day trades, position ourselves for free agency in the coming years, etc. All that will transpire before Dwight's opinion on whether he wants to sign an extension or not even matters.

And I suspect that once all that plays out, assuming we hire competent staff, we'll be a rather appealing landing spot for Howard (has history here, can earn the largest contract here, can solidy his legacy as a Magician for life, and can attract free agents if our capspace is properly managed, setting up the opportunity to bring him in a couple proper sidekicks). Stan and Otis's chairs aren't even cold yet.

Let the process play out for a bit.

Counter point to the D12 not resigining:

Rival Execs Speculate Howard May Be More Willing To Sign New Deal

Some rival executives believe Dwight Howard may be more willing to sign a long-term deal with the Magic this offseason following his season-ending back surgery.

The Magic parted ways with Stan Van Gundy and Otis Smith on Monday, a sign that there is new hope of the team retaining Howard.

I'm not believing anything that comes out until someone from the organization or Dwight himself says it. But, this is more believable than the other story.

This needed to happen regardless of the Dwight situation but if we also lose Dwight, I'm going to be a little depressed come training camp.

I for one like the whole clean slate mindset. Otis was a no brainer svg was bitter sweet. While i appreciate what svg did i will not miss a coach who refuses to make adjustments and who gives duhon minutes. And im tired of this franchise being held down by drama, lets hope things get done quick and quite.

I also would like things to be done quickly. Hire someone like Walsh within two weeks, have him hire a coach within two weeks after that. Then figure out where Dwight stands and either sign him or move him for a great package. If no great package exist, we are going to have another long year of drama. We hopefully have to hope for either:

A) Dwight decides to sign long term
B) NJ lands that top pick
C) Lakers are willing to trade Bynum plus at least half of Pau's trade value (in a 3 team deal)

If those things do not happen, we are going to have yet another year of Dwight/ESPN drama...

BQRMagic
The Magic saved money in trading Bass ($4 million) for Davis ($6 million), because Bass is gonna get hella paid this summer.

MagicalNBA
D12 is going to have to meet with the gm and decide if he stays. If not, watch the lottery balls and also Bynum/gasol for Hedo d12

There's no way Dwight demands a trade before the GM and coach are announced.

Don't believe everything you read.

Nice words by Turk. Hedo had his best years under SVG, no doubt.
