cubs mishandled both pitches. wood's pitch count in all of his starts in 98' are crazy. I see 130, 122, 115. all for a rookie pitcher. After the 20 strike out game, he was a cash cow and the Cubs just went along with it, this and the Sosa Vs. McGuire Homerun battle and a playoff run was good PR.

In the long run it was really bad. really really bad.

Wish more players, when their declines kick in, went out the way he did there...announce your intention, and walk off one last time knowing that's it. Nice moment.

Prior was as good as Halladay

Both Wood and Prior had Hall of Fame talent

Easily the best 1/2 combo in the league, but yeah sadly they weren't built like Halladay to be able to constantly rack up high amounts of innings/pitch counts, but then again they were pitched out at such a young age..it suck

and the other crazy thing is that prior won 18 games as a 22yr old but went 211 innings...what could have been

Johnson and Schilling might argue that

Atlanta had some epic starters too

It is too bad about Prior though. He played his last MLB game in 2006 when he was just 25 years old...

I remember this game as though it were yesterday. 20 strikeouts against the 'Killer Bs.' Classic.

Wrigley Field has always been my favourite park.

He was really dealing that day. The top of the Astros order that year was crazy - Biggio, Bell, Alou, Bagwell - they had a good offense. Wasn't the hit off someone's glove too?

They also had Sean Berry.

Was Berry one of the original though? Or one of those honourary guys like Brad Ausmus or Berkman (later)?

I don't know. He played for them that year and was mentioned as part of the cohort. His was certainly not the first, second, or third name on the list--that much, I grant you.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
