Petro/Morrow for cap room?

Post#1 » by BLT » Tue May 22, 2012 4:01 pm

just curious would you guys give up your houston rockets 1st rounder to the hornets for them to take the contracts of Morrow and Petro? just a thought since i figure you guys will be trying to make big moves this summer and the hornets have a bunch of cap room but lets be honest we wont be making a splash in the free agent market...

saves nets 7 million against the cap, hornets get another 1st rounder (if the rockets ever make the playoffs)

Morrow can easily be traded elsewhere without giving up a pick.

yes morrow's stats were a bit better than i thought they were and i knew he was a good 3 pt shooter but that wasnt really the reason i involved him. just as a salary dump. Its actually not such a great trade for the hornets, adding 7 million to next years payroll and getting a pick that cant be higher than 15. also its whenever the rockets make the playoffs . so if they miss the playoffs the next 3 years the pick isnt till 2015.

funny story. I live in south florida and I go to LA fitness down here to play ball. Yesterday i was playin and guess who walks through the door, yep Johan Petro himself to play some pick up games. I'll be honest, for a 7 foot NBA player I was really not impressed. I ended up guarding him and granted im about 6'4 250 and a former D1 football player but still, I should have been destroyed by an NBA center. He only scored twice and one was on a fast break 2 on 1.

I will say this, he was very friendly and seemed like a good guy, but oh my god he was out of shape, weak, and seriously lacking in NBA skill. This dude really needs to go.

ON A SIDE NOTE: He told me that the new uniforms looks VERY similar to the heat's alternate all black and white uniforms. so take that as you may.

He was holding back. He didn't want to embarrass you guys so he felt like playing bad to give you guys some confidence.

Unfortunately, he always holds back...lol.

I figured that the jerseys were going to look like similar to the Heat jerseys. Thanks for the info!

This would all depend on a lot of things, but if Farmar opts in I would do this for Farmar and Petro along with $3 million.

Haha honestly we felt like the only reason he was playing there was to give HIMSELF confidence that he's lost from sucking it up against NBA competition haha. But he hit a TON of threes whenever he had smaller opponents on him. but whenever he had me or another guy that was big on him he didnt do anything.

I don't really want to dump Morrow... I just want Avery to open his eyes and realize that Morrow is a much better fit next to Deron and Wallace than MarShon at this point in time.

What would it take for the Wolves to get in on the likes of Brooks or Morrow? We have a bit of everything in terms of trade value, but I wasn't sure what was need in NJ in regards to fans. There are cap friendly assets like Martel Webster, who would be an expiring....young talent...Wes Johnson, Michael Beasley, or Anthony Randolph. And a whole slew of depth guys....is there any reasonable scenario where either one of the NJ guys mentioned could get swapped with something Minnesota has? We need perimeter scoring in the worst way...

So when he had smaller players guarding him, he went out to the three point line....but when he had a guy who's "big" at 6'4 he couldn't score inside? Makes absolutely zero sense, but I guess that's why it's Johan.

He didnt post, pretty much at all. Which is exactly how he plays in the league too haha. But what I meant was when he had guys like 6' on him who couldnt challenge his shot he knocked it down but when I or another kid who was prob 6'5 guarded him we were able to challenge his shot and he had trouble making the shot.

the moral of the story is petro played just as soft against amateurs as he does against NBA competition haha

I feel like Wallace's eventual contract extension with the Nets will put an end to the Nets pursuit of Beasley, but someone like Anthony Randolph would be an interesting fit for this team.

I've never been a huge fan of his but sometimes you need to swing for the fences, and the Nets do need an upgrade at PF...

My concern with trading Morrow from the Nets perspective is that I don't like Brooks as a starter next to Deron - Wallace - Lopez...

I'd trade MarShon, Farmar and Petro for the 18th and Webster or Brad Miller quicker then you can say ball stopper.
