Bensational wrote:i'm wondering what positives Shaq would bring to the table...
- knows what to look for in a coach (someone who can handle egos, someone who can handle big men, etc)
- knows what to look for in a sidekick to a dominant big man (has played with Kobe and Wade)
- has achieved everything Dwight wants to achieve (MVP, championships, starred in crappy movies)
- they both have the chance to build a legacy in Orlando
apart from that, there's all the negatives that would come along with it.
- what's his negotiation skills like?
- can he keep his ego in check?
- can he evaluate talent?
etc etc etc
Great list. Literally makes me feel better about it. I've always liked Shaq's personality and I think he is highly intelligent (high charisma tends to use a particular intelligence).
Though, to be completely honest, this Shaq thing feels like deja vu like I've had a nightmare about this in the past.

So if Shaqs GM does that mean Grant Hill will become our president?!
Shaq: "Yeah, it's serious. Grant, who's like my best friend now, we have a relationship with the DeVos family. So we always throw out Grant president, me general manager. "

Forget retiring jerseys, we have a full force retirement plan. Hire ex players to run the company.

No, Grant would become the team's trainer.

If he's GM, the President of Basketball Operations has to be a seasoned vet like Walsh or Pritchard. Still, I just don't like the idea of bringing Shaq back to ORL.
Finally someone mentions we are more than likely getting 3 new guys, President, GM, and coach. With Foyle probably retaining Assistant GM for now.

I'd say hurt. They didn't end on good terms and I just don't see Phil coaching under Shaq.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXIV: Offseason Edition
this isn't in line with any other talks, but what do you guys think about clearing cap space whilst retooling with cheap, 1 year contracts for some seasoned vets?? with Boston blowing things up, KG and Allen will become available, and i think they'd be great pieces to have around Dwight, and would really help shape the culture going forward. perhaps we could land Nash as well?
Dwight
KG
[insert]
Allen
Nash
freeing up space to trade each and every other piece just to get under the cap to bring in guys in 2013. heck, we could even have enough pieces to bring back Smith/Iggy/Monta to fill in the empty spot on the roster? couple that with a solid coach, and we could have everything we need to make a 1 year run, whilst remaining flexible, whilst giving Dwight what he needs and making it hard for him to lead.
i know that many people don't like KG. he does a lot that i hate as well. but, if he were doing it for my team, i'd love it. i could only imagine how positive an influence he could have on Dwight, and how much he could set the course for this team's culture moving forward.
