Tom Hanneman No Longer Wolves' Play-by-Play Guy

Post#1 » by Klomp » Thu May 24, 2012 4:10 pm

@Twolves_PR

Congrats to longtime #Twolves pbp man Tom Hanneman, who accepted the position as main studio host for @fsnorth. Best of luck to a great guy!

@Twolves_PR

Excited that Tom will still play a large role in our broadcasts as our pre- and post-game show host @fsnorth.

@WolvesCMO

Congrats to Hanny who was just named as FSN's studio host/anchor. From the voice of the #twolves to the face of the entire FSN network!

Rumors are the Wolves want Paul Allen.

Another early favorite is current radio guy Alan Horton.

Really? If the plan is to pair up Jim Petersen with a complete moron, I'd think that there are better choices.

Tom Hanneman, who has worked on Timberwolves broadcasts in a number of roles over the past 23 years -- the last nine doing TV play-by-play -- has joined Fox Sports North full-time as main studio host for the network's Timberwolves, Twins, Wild and Gophers hockey broadcasts.

Hanneman has been a part of the local media scene for 39 years; before joining the Timberwolves he worked for 16 years as a producer, reporter and anchor at WCCO-TV.

Hanneman, who will become FSNorth's main studio host, will be taking over for Anthony LaPanta, who was recently named the TV play-by-play voice for the Minnesota Wild. Hanneman brings a wealth of experience. He has won five regional Emmy awards and done national work for NBA Radio. More recently he hosted the Jack Jablonski telethon as part of Hockey Day in Minnesota.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity and continuing the long-term relationship I've built with Fox Sports North," Hanneman said in a FSNorth release. "There are many great things ahead. I truly look forward to connecting with Timberwolves fans and all Minnesota sports fans at a new level."

The move means FSNorth now has two positions to fill. LaPanta's move to the Wild created an opening for a TV play-by-play voice for Gophers hockey, and a new Timberwolves play-by-play announced will also have to be named.

Damn. I liked Hanneman. Replacing him with PA would be a huge step down. :(

TT's not a play-by-play guy. Plus he sucks.

TT at least had that pbp voice in him. PA and Focke both suck. What's your solution?

Actually I prefer PA's voice to Trent Tucker's. I can't even imagine TT trying to do play-by-play.

Paul Allen knows nothing about basketball.

Compared to other team's broadcasts, Hanneman and Peterson were really good.

Man, when I read the title I thought it was Peterson. I like them both but there are a lot of color guys you can grab. I was thinking Trent Tucker or something. By the play by play guy? man, that's a big deal. I don't know if I am feeling Paul Allen.

Walter Bond has a great personality and a great speaker. He could give locker room pep talks too.

Twolves have one of the better groups of play by play guys of almost any team. Some teams are completely unbearable. Happy that he is staying with FSN at least hopefully they can find someone decent to take his place.
