Yeah he is 6'8" but he has a 7'1" wingspan and he really is not that undersized when you look at most power forwards around the league.

We just have to face the facts and realise that if Dwight doesn't extend he's gone, so we are just exploring all options, don't sweat it lol.

This is the "Official Speculation Thread" is it not? I don't want to trade Dwight (and I'm pretty sure everyone else discussing trade scenarios involving him don't want to either), but it's a possibility. They just want to go through every scenario. Which is fine.

if the cavs pick is 1st or second you go davis or drummond, coupled with thompson, thats a beast frontline for the next 12 years... AND we have the 19th and 24th pick in that scenario?? maybe, we move those 2 picks plus baby or JJ's expiring for a higher pick and nab rivers...

drummond
thompson
??
??
rivers

AND we clear a TON of capspace (hedo/dwight/jameer opts out/jj)

then move j-rich to minny and try and get another 1st rounder for baby and grab maybe jeff taylor or doron lamb... WHAT??? thats rebuilding on the fly...

Honestly, that scenario sounds pretty exciting....

I'd rather keep Dwight, of course, but that's a great second option.

We'd be on course to looking like the next Thunder, imo. Best of all, when we'd be coming into prominence, MIA would be getting old.

Exactly what I was getting at. I would be so excited for a young team, and to watch them grow

Well it's like this, after this season and the ups and downs of Dwight wanting and not wanting a trade, a lot of people just got fed up with it. Pair that up with the poor play of this season, his surgery and SVG being fired, Dwight's really got on peoples nerves and some just would rather see him gone.

Now we're of course a stronger contender with Dwight, but if we have to deal with another season like the one we just had, I'd also like him gone as well.

It's easy to understand when Dwight went from the most likeable guy in the league, to a heel in less than half a season, a pretty remarkable turn around if you ask me. He's still a good guy, but he really put the team through the ringer this season.

You're questioning the wrong people. I'd keep Dwight, especially with these bum trades. But Alex already said he'd trade him if he didn't extend. Not our call. Tell it to ownership.

I still say any approach to this offseason should be with contention in mind for next season. This means that you approach the Dwight situation a little differently than you would otherwise. You offer him the extension which if he doesn't accept you then look to trade him for a core that could contend right away. You do not trade him to begin rebuilding. Trades I'd look at would be for established stars, first or second All-NBA players. So a Bynum|Gasol package (has to be both) or a Melo|Chandler package and that is pretty much it. If you can't get either deal then you keep Dwight. Regardless, you are building a core to contend with immediately, so you are looking to package complimentary pieces to try a bring back a fringe All Star to fill out our core, a Ellis|Iggy|Gay|Smoove type player, and you do everything you can to get Nash here for the MLE (even if it means hiring D'Antoni). You also keep Ryan Anderson in either the trade Dwight or keep Dwight scenario, as he is already a fringe all star and a core piece that you just can't afford to lose. If trading our support pieces for a fringe star doesn't work you work like hell to trade Hedo. If that doesn't work you work like hell to trade Baby and JRich for cap space in '13, cap space that would then be used to acquire a fringe all star.

Best case is that Dwight extends, we sign Nash, we trade Redick|BBD|#19 for Iggy, Clark stays and/or Fran takes our Bi-Annual to come here, Nelson opts out and re-signs for much less, and we roll out with

Whether we trade him or he walks, we're going to the rock bottom of the NBA. We have a chance to create a perennial contender in the East in a year's time or sooner. Trade him for the punk deals on the market and we may never get that chance again. Unless we get a deal that blows us off our feet, it makes no sense to trade him. Whatever we get back is the equivalent of nothing, letting him walk.

Our @BHSN @NBA analyst Chucky Atkins pumped up OKC's Troy Weaver for the #Magic job on the day Otis Smith was fired. Follow him: @Cdiem007

Yes he is. Just got through talking with a few die-hard Spurs fans to get a break down on Dennis Lindsey and they informed me that R.C. Buford and Pop are still the main guys that make the roster decisions in San Antonio. He has a bit of input but not enough to make him a sure choice.

At least with Weaver, he has a very nice history of scouting and making sound draft picks regardless of the position.

I want a PG/SG combo I'm tired of the center position being our most potent position. Its boring

The odds are that Dwight is going to leave anyway and I think this is a great mix of talent to help start rebuild the team.

YES.YES.YES.

That's the best return I've seen for Dwight yet.

Good thing about Weaver is if we do trade Dwight for a lottery pick, he seems to know how to avoid busts and pick franchise players. Quick way to get back into contention is to be able to draft a horse and avoid the Kwame's and Emeka's. If we suck for a year, at least we'd have confidence in the guy to pick the Durant or Rose out of the crop.
