I actually think the wolves are in a great position to go try to get Lin with a back loaded contract and I wouldn't be one bit suprised if they pursued him. He'd actually be a pretty good fit on the team and provides additional marketing potential.

Not that I endorse chasing him, but even If they offered him the biggest contract allowed 5/5/15/15. It wouldn't impact the teams ability to go after a big name free agent next season when more big names are available.

Again I'm not saying it's wise, but I wouldn't be shocked if the wolves are in the conversation along with the raptors as potential suitors.

And what's the point of going after Lin (aside from the marketing potential)? The PG position is the last thing we need to worry about (after the PF position of course).

I also think Lin is just a bit overhyped. If he can produce at a similar or slightly below level he's certainly worth a MLE type of deal, maybe even up to 8-9 million a year but we are one of the last teams to offer that much money for him. Particularly not a multiyear contract for someone who was on a hot streak.

Wolves get Iguodala, Dudley
Sixers get Gortat, Wes, Darko and Jazz pick
Suns get Williams, Miller

Wolves get Amir Johnson
Raptors get Webster

Extend QO to Beasley an try to resign him on the cheap if it fails then bring back Tolliver instead of Beasley on the cheap.

Rubio/Ridnour/Barea
Dudley/Barea/Wayne
Iggy/Beasley
Love/A.Johnson/Beasley
Pekovic/A.Johnson/P.Davis

Love that for us. I'm guessing you would have to send some extras to PHX. That would be the best defensive wing team in the league though.

Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, who also is chairman of the NBA Board of Governors, has been watching his league's playoffs closely.

"I don't think there's a clear champion, and that's a good thing," he said.

It also means Taylor expects his Wolves to be in the playoffs next season.

"We have the players to do it," he said. "We were close this season."

Taylor also said his team is "going to try" the free-agent market.

Whether they'll be effective is another matter.

No doubt. However, there's a point which you have no control over once you went beyond it. They can offer the best circumstances they have the resources for but, as an example, if you factor in taxes and all that junk that's something Taylor and his pals have little to no control over.

Oh how short sided can ones thinking be. Of course any Wolves fan would "rather just try and sign Batum in the off-season" but what team wouldn't, including Portland. If he can be had, even at max, Wolves should do it...but he can't. Blaz will match any offer...the new CBA makes max for a player like Batum not a potential cap debilitating overspend for 4 short contractual years.

And it can't be argued Pek is expendable...this is Love's and RR team to build around. Even more so cause a true plotting, under athletic center is highly overrated in today's NBA...combined with the very important fact Love can play the 5 very well.

If Portland matches a max offer on Batum then that's fine by me. Just hurts them from signing other players to help their team and we can explore other things. No way I'd give up our best young prospect and a center who is on a good contract, with elite efficiency, one of the best offensive rebounders in the game while still being young.

I do not understand the Batum love. He might be an upgrade, but if you throw out the horrible start Wes had they are very similar players or better yet compare how wes did last year per36. Stylisticly very similar.

They both...

Shoot the 3 well. Don't get to the line much. Both can rebound fairly well. Both just disappear from games. Both get a block and a steal and can be pesky/long defenders. Neither are very aggressive. Neither is a very good ball handler. Batum certainly a far better player offesnively, but for the max? Seriously... Hes not that good. He's probably worth 6-7m and he'll get 9-10m which the wolves should not pay. The only FA worth the wolves giving the max is Gordon and NOH will match.

I'd honestly much rather keep Beas for 6-7m a year than batum at 10+. Go sign mayo. Maybe Get morrow for cap space. Simple and effective.

Batum wouldn't be cap crippling, but I also don't think he brings anything new to the team. I even like Batum, and always have. He was always projected to be a very good player.

A competent wing is something new and significant.

Yep. Not that I think Batum is worth the max, but he's a major upgrade on the wing (and an above average starter in general). As with any of these trade or free agency possibilities, it's all about what the cost will be.

I kind of agree with bruce. Getting a good defender on the wing would be nice but, offensively, Batum wouldn't really bring anything new. The team already has a bunch of spot up shooters (even if they couldn't hit anything this season).

Eh, I think you guys are selling Batum low. He averaged 15 / 5 / 2 with a steal and a block per game on 45 / 37 / 84. Our bum wings were lucky to average 15 points combined.

Batum's got a career TS% of 57.6%. That's new.

Well now that NO won the lottery, anyone think an athletic PF who can shoot is the perfect compliment to Davis. Williams for Gordon let's bring it back! haha

Maybe this does make Gordon available if they take on Ariza's for an expiring, they could do much worse for a SF with just 2 years on a not so great contract that expires before Rubio see's his payday.

it'll be interesting to see if jeremy lamb is still on board at 10...they might take him or one of the point guards lillard or marshall, but if they take lamb then you gotta believe they might be open to moving gordon and driving another tank towards a pg next lottery.

Davis is also a PF, so no, I don't think another PF would be the perfect compliment.
