Bill Simmons is furious. It just sucks from a fans perspective to witness one of the greatest performances I've ever seen by a PG in the playoffs get completely erased by the refs' non-call. His performance means nothing now.

LOL at Delonte West trending worldwide after Lebron kisses his mom after the game.
Never thought I'd see Wally trending worldwide. Takes balls for him of all people to call out KG and say he was never a clutch player.
Also enjoy "STFU Wade" trending worldwide as well.

His performance wasn't erased by it, it'll get talked about plenty. Hell you could almost say it was enhanced by it, because if they weren't down 7 or whatever there's no way he takes and hits those two deep 3's late meaning he likely doesn't break 40.
As for Simmons being furious - Bill Simmons lives his life for 2.5 reasons :
1. For the Boston Celtics
2. To get furious over perceived injustices against the Boston Celtics
0.5. For the LA Clippers.
How did you expect him to be?

Re: First Round Playoff Thread
The NBA needs Lebron in the Finals since it looks like Durant may get bounced. It's frustrating to see the best game in the world spoiled by corruption.
Rigged lottery followed by that gem of a game.

Re: First Round Playoff Thread
Well even if he didn't break 40, it was still a hell of a performance. He played the entire game. IMO he single-handedly made this game competitive. None of the other players on his team had above-average games. Their franchise player went to the locker room early while Rondo's out there hitting desperation 3s trying to win the game.
Other than the points (stats), the late 3s didnt really make his performance better. Hitting those clutch FTs that he should have got from Wade's foul would have been just as good. I'm not saying they'd have won for sure, but I think they would have.

I don't think the game was rigged. They just missed one huge call.

Re: First Round Playoff Thread
I'm not claiming the game was rigged, but it was definitely influenced by the officiating and beyond the obvious blown call. Celtics got no whistles and Heat got nearly twice as many.

One player shooting 24 free throws. Who wants to watch that garbage?

Been wondering that for 2 years now.

Re: First Round Playoff Thread
I think that may have been the Celtics' best shot. Only way I see them having a chance now is if they win both games in Boston and I don't think that will happen.
Rondo is f'n amazing. I don't care if he can be a bit temperamental; he'd have to be banging everyone's wife in the building before I'd even think about trading him.

Re: First Round Playoff Thread
I love guys who have no comparison. Not saying Rondo is an all time great, but there has never been a point guard like him. Six feet, can't shoot, then goes off for 35+ in a must win game. Surly. As fast a PG as there has ever been. Tenacious. Can take anyone to the hole. Teammates can't stand him.
I love the guy.

Maybe they shouldn't have fouled him so much? I watched the game... they were all fouls.
When he was going to the paint, they'd get physical with him. They'd rather send him to the line then have him finish.

Re: First Round Playoff Thread
I didn't have a problem with the officiating last night. It was far worse in Game 1 in my opinion.
I did think the stat ESPN posted about LeBron's shooting percentage with a chance to win or tie in the final 24 seconds was interesting. Might be something to remember whenever Kobe is hammered for not being clutch enough in similar situations. Wade's percentage wasn't any good either.

I think Carmelo is pretty much the only "star" perimeter player that has a really good percentage, if I recall the stats that I've looked at right.

Yup and if you told me I could pick one person to take the shot with the game on the line in that situation from a group of Kobe, LeBron, Wade or Melo he'd be the last one I'd pick.

I personally think a big mistake that most teams make is just going to one guy at the end of the game. I'll never understand why you don't just keep running your offense.
Miami was smart last night just going to that Wade/LeBron PnR and abusing it the last few plays. Like I said earlier, no clue why they don't run that play all of the time. LeBron's their best player and should arguably have the ball in his hands a lot... but when you use him as a screen guy like that with a guy like Wade handling, it creates match-up problems and defensive confusion like I've never seen before.

Re: First Round Playoff Thread
I think a NBA coach makes his end of games shot decision and play calls based as much on ego and player management as he does who he thinks has the best chance of making the shot.
The Scottie Pippen 1.8 seconds moment is the best example. Pip was playing out of his mind that year, should have been the MVP. But Kukoc probably had a better chance of making that game winner. The aftermath of that incident could have been a career altering one for all involved (Phil, Scottie, Toni) and Phil J was probably one of the few guys savvy enough to get quiet things down, get the media off Scottie's back, and smooth things between Pip and Toni.
I know this all sounds silly, and these are "adults" paid to play. But it is what it is.

Bob Cousy went a little further than I did but our point about Rondo is the same.
