Laffey optioned to LV, Lind off 40 man, RHP Coello called up

John Lott ‏@LottOnBaseball

Aaron Laffey optioned to Las Vegas. Counter-move to be announced before Friday's game.

media suggests it's going to be a bat because they're getting rid of the 8-man pen. could it be vlady? or maybe even hech, who knows but it's likely to be someone we haven't seen yet. can't be thames or gomes. as long as its not lind.

I doubt it's Hech. They won't call up a guy who won't be slotted to start everyday. Unless we pull off a trade or something, that won't happen this year.

No Hech in the line up in LV and the comments about him being good to travel to Canada I'm going to guess its him.

I'm thinking Vlad or Lind. Anybody that gets Cooper or Davis out of their starting roles would be fine by me, though.

Just view this as a "throwing a dart with your eyes closed and maybe it'll hit the board" type thing, and not as a suggestion. But what if the Jays were to move KJ to LF and call up Hech to play the middle-infield with Escobar?

I know KJ has been great defensively and everything. Just an outside the box idea.

It seems like a reasonable idea, but there are few problems with that, though. The first is that KJ can't exactly run at the moment, so he'd hardly be able to play LF in the short-term. And in the long-term, you'd hope that's Travis Snider's position (and I'm sure he'll be up shortly after he gets healthy).

barring any injuries, i'd assume the roster in ~a month will include guerrero and snider instead of mccoy and cooper.

EE would play 1st mostly, with bautista getting the odd start here and there

davis, mathis, and vizquel off the bench

pretty decent line-up imo

indeed,

absolutely can't wait for vladdy to join the team. the guy is still valuable in my opinion and I think he will flourish in this lineup, in this ballpark, on this team...

Personally i don't expect much from vladdy, so if he produces it'll be a nice surprise. I think when or if Lind comes back, he'll be getting the cover off the ball and go on a little rampage.

and Johnson was less than thrilled about LF when AA mentioned it in the Spring... with it being a contract year, a position switch might be a non-starter

If KJ or Escobar are hurt, I could see us sending down McCoy, and callup Hech and Vladdy.

------

Is there any chance KJ can play 1B?
1B- Johnson
2B/SS - Hech/Escobar
LF/DH - Vladdy/Encarnacion

The Blue Jays announced that they outrighted first baseman Adam Lind to Triple-A, removing him from the 40-man roster. They selected the contract of Robert Coello and optioned Aaron Laffey to Triple-A in related moves.

Barry Davis ‏@SNBarryDavis

So much for #bluejays adding a position player. JAYS select contract RHP ROBERT COELLO. To make room on 40 man, Lind outrighted

uhhhh....ok. lind's off the 40 man...but who is coello? can someone fill in on this guy

Beck has to wait 10 days to come back up.

There really were very few options on the 40 man roster. Positional players we could have brought up were TDA, Sierra, McDade or Hech. Sierra hasn't earned it, they want Hech and TDA to get regular playing time and McDade has never even played AAA yet.
