Golden State Deal?

What would it take to get Josh Smith on the Warriors?

Would u do:
Philly In: #7 Wright #23
Philly Out: Iggy #15

Atl In: David Lee and #15 #30
Atl Out: Smith #23

GS In: Iggy, Smith
GS Out: Lee #7 #30

Why for Philly
Get a desirable pick in a highly touted draft, (such as Perry Jones III, Tyler Zeller, John Henson)get a useful 3 point shooter off the bench in Wright, and save money by getting rid of Iggy.

Why for Atlanta?
Atlanta gets an offensively skilled PF who can help stretch the floor for Horford in the most with his perimeter shooting, a higher move in the draft which could land them Meyers Leonard, Jared Sullenger, or Austin Rivers. They also get a late first round pick with Darious Miller and Draymond Green potentially on the board still.

Why for Golden State?
Golden State gets rid of David Lee for cap space and also lose their draft picks. However, Josh Smith and Andre Iguodale would make them possibly one of the most athletic teams in the league.

Thoughts?

No, David Lee has a longterm contract and those two picks together are still relatively weak. Furthermore, Smith is just a superior player to Lee when it comes to being a winning player because of his defense.

Biedrins,Wright, 7 and 30 would get me intrigued for Josh though.

No, he is simply too injured and has a longer contract than Smith. Maybe Smith and Marvin for Bogut and Wright would work though

Of course even ithough I don't see how that really helps us on the court other than addition by subtraction. On the other hand, I don't see them doing that.

^I was hoping our GS guest would answer. Reports I've read show that the Warriors are interested in Smith and/or Joe, so I mentioned Joe. They considered Joe when they were trading Ellis and I read a couple of days ago they're still interested (I just can't find the article). Joe is a massive upgrade at either SG or SF for them. He and Curry would kill teams from the outside and really open things up on the inside. They also dump 2 bad contracts.

For us, Biedrins is better than Twin (not saying much, I know) and Lee is super as a backup PF/Center. We could keep the pick or add it to Josh Smith while shopping for a Center. ORL, for example, might bite on a Josh Smith/David Lee/#7 trade offer for Dwight Howard. Smith is only a little lower than Bynum in value and Lee + #7 are better than the rest of LA's offer.

Even if we couldn't trade them, Lee and the #7 are a big talent upgrade to our front line.

I think people have forgot how good Biedrins can be. The Warriors decided to go all "everyone is a jumpshooter" on people and he got buried. I think he could still offer something.

That said, Bidrens or Lee are not better in any combination with Horford than Josh Smith both offensively or defensivley.

^Well, he hasn't played well since 08-09. His production has dropped terribly. .111 FT %? 3.8reb/game? 1.7pt/game? The one block per game (with 15.7min/game) is interesting.

It's nice to hope but the team taking him cannot afford to expect much from him. All I'd plan for is a big body with 6 fouls to give us.

Agreed, although adding the #7 would help. The only reason to consider the trade would be to get something for Smith, if we are convinced he's leaving.

Hawks get Childress
Warriors get Joe
Suns get Lee

i heard Childress is still really good friends with Josh, Marvin, and Horford (also heard that Rudy Gay is friends with alot of the Atlanta athletes, he even to Josh's wedding along with Dwight and Crittenton)

Actually a Joe deal could make sense for both sides.

Joe Johnson and 2013 #1 (lottery protection)
for
Richard Jefferson, Dorell Wright and 2012 #1 (pick #7)

Jefferson has 2 years left on his contract and Wright is expiring. Joe would slide into SF for GSW which might be a better fit than Josh Smith. Their lineup becomes Curry, Thompson, Johnson, Lee, and Bogut, which if healthy is a playoff lineup. For the Hawks, the 2 first rounders should net a SG and C to develop. This year the Hawks lineup will be a bit awkward with too many SFs (Jefferson, Wright, Williams, and Smith in a big lineup) likely pushing one into the back court for some minutes.

The key to Atlanta is the financial flexibility in the move. It saves a couple million in year 1. If Dorell Wright isn't resigned the year 2 difference is about 9M and then close to 20M in year 3. If the rails come of the team without Joe, then we have the lottery protection on the pick we give up in the first year.

This move wouldn't assume anything in terms of Josh Smith. He could be traded, resigned, or allowed to walk in this scenario. Truthfully I'd like to stick with the idea of going big and start a front line of Josh, Al, and Zaza. Depending on how Josh plays there over a larger sample would impact whether I tried to resign him or trade him at the deadline.

I want nothing from Golden State other than picks.

You could give us their top 3 guys and we aren't getting out to the ECF.

It's the leadership here and the scheme. It's not contending worthy.

Jerry West wants Josh? I'll take their draft picks because those and cash are their only assets.

Let Josh plays SF somewhere else.

The thing is though, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest in Smith, so I think we take what we can get. Losing him for nothing OR resigning him to a big contract would set this franchise back a lot.

IMO, Biedrins/Wright/#7/maybe #35 is a pretty good haul for Smith, particularly if we can dump Marvin for a 2nd rounder (Minnesota? Cleveland? Charlotte?). Biedrins and Wright are both back-ups, but this is a deep draft that can get us some legit players well into the second round.
