After showing ‘some interest,’ Phil Jackson will not join the Orlando Magic. http://bit.ly/N20twF #orlandomagic

I guess that was the "big" thing BS was talking about... oh well, didn't expect it to happen anyway.
I wonder who the rookie coach was? And what's this talk about scottie f'n pippen. I don't want him coaching this team.

It was Shaq.

1. We should try to get Phil Jackson without Vincent and tell him he can take over the franchise.
2. Maybe all the Howard talk yesterday scared Phil off?

Not only Phil but the plan was to..

With the possibility of Jackson and Howard on board, the hope was that their star power could attract free agents such as Steve Nash and Lamar Odom.

I don't know if the unknown hall of famer would have been in our best interest though

So no Jeff Bower?

Also
That intermediary with Vincent was a former all-star player and Hall of Famer who, in Vincent's plan, was to be the next coach of the Magic. Jackson would help mentor him.

The former player has never coached before, but surrounded by Jackson and a coaching staff including Vincent — former Charlotte Bobcats coach — and a couple of Jackson's former Los Angeles Lakers assistant coaches — Frank Hamblen and Jim Cleamons — the hope was that he could learn on the fly.

I'd love to divulge the name of the former all-star player and would-be coach, but he's currently an employee of another NBA team.

I believe that BS said if the "BIG" move didn't go through, Bower would most likely be the GM. :falloff:

I hope Dwight saw that little clip on Duncan and Durant on Inside the NBA on TNT just now. About Duncan and Durant staying with 1 team and being from a small market etc... Anyone else see that. I thought it was perfect for 12 to see and I hope he did

We're going to need really good hires in the front office and at head coach to have any chance of keeping Dwight. There's not much we can do with the roster. Phil coming aboard would have locked Dwight up in a heartbeat.

thats unfortunate about phil jackson but in the long run i think lindsey weaver pritchard or walsh would be better for us. the only thing that phil would have done for us was name recognition and possibly made dwight think we were all about winning which imo linsey weaver and walsh do just without the name recognition. also i want someone with at least some coaching experience not some former all star who would be learning on the fly.

I didnt, but it was probably a great watch. Maybe I can catch it somewhere on the internet.

It's a shame reading these "it could've been's" but it seems a door-dead-shut now thing. I don't see Phil re-flipping his mind unless maybe as a small shot, Dwight reached out, which is unlikely too.

Although Phil in the FO would've been a star power move, the guys who are the right hand man's to the Spurs/Thunders FO strategies are going to be championship executives who could transfuse this franchise to not just being known as a high spending ownership team, but also a top 5 managed franchises, which is sorely needed to effectively spend the owners' will to win a title. Pritchard from his Portland days and experience, and Walsh from his terrific New York managing, would also seem to be A grade moves. It's nothing but absolutely awesome that our ownership/Martins/FO is moving in this direction trying for all the big names and our "least" likeable named GM candidate is a guy who has literally been an advanced scout, head coach, and GM.

I think the Dwight saga and it's either-outcome is even well known among all the candidates, so I imagine there is something special to the respect of being such a competitive and sometimes illustrious star team since its short franchise existence- with stats like top 3-ish team in regular season/playoffs wins last 5 years or so, and total franchise win record since its early inception. And I'm thinking there is also some large acknowledgement within candidates' minds that Orlando is an amazing city in terms of weather, taxes, and overall feel (family city, offseason spot for SL/players' homes, transient base), and the Florida/franchise lure to many free agents is definitely known there. There's definitely a sense of optimism to be had for the Magic if we grab a premier FO, no matter what happens with Dwight.

P.O.B. = Donnie Walsh

G.M. = Tim Weaver or Kevin Pritchard

Head Coach = Brian Shaw

From BS's article:

Vincent has some head coaching candidates for the Magic, including Scottie Pippen. "We lose a strong component in Phil, but it still has a lot of strength," Vincent said. "I wanted to have Phil in the group."

Someone fill me in on why Vincent is recruiting for us. I know he played for the Magic, but does he currently work for us in some capacity? What's in it for him?

I'm sorry, I don't want Pippen.....

I've never heard of him even having interest in coaching. I don't care what he has done/accomplished as a player, great players don't always make good coaches.
