Include him in a Dwight Howard trade if that happens.

I believe using the amnesty on Elton will give us about enough money to offered Deron a max contract. Lou Will opting in will not affect that. If Lou did opt out, we would just have an extra 6 mill or so in cap room.

As far as I know, we would need to renounce Lou (assuming he opted out) in order to free up that cap room. I believe if he opted out, he would immediately cost about 2 million more (cap hold is over 7 mil if he does I think) than he would if he didn't opt out.
Anyone know the deadline for these guys with option to decide? I'm assuming it has to be before free agency is set to begin, right?

I didn't include everything possible for obvious reasons (sorry Sam Young), but hopefully it provides a nice basis.

Curious, say Lou opts-out...so now he's costing us over 7 million with his cap hold. Let's say we want to go after Eric Gordon, but we don't have enough room to make the offer....do we need to renounce Lou before we make an offer or can we make the offer, see how it plays out, then renounce him if Gordon takes the offer?
Basically, do you need to have the cap space to make an offer, or do you just need to free it up once it's accepted?
Lavoy, the 15th pick, and Lou cap hold: 44,508,703 in salary (44,035,099 when making an offer so max offer with current cap would be ~14m a year, also only the with room exception no full mle)

A guy like Eric Gordon would not be a BYC player if we did do a S/T for him, right? As I understand it, you only become BYC (or whatever the new CBA calls it) if the team was over the cap after the signing (using bird rights). Since New Orleans would have the cap room to sign him to a max offer he would not get tagged as BYC, right?

Maybe also add Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries to the list. Signing Wallace for a reasonable amount ($6M per year?) could allow us to put him at SF, move Iguodala back to SG, and move Turner to the bench, or maybe trade him (perhaps in a package w/Young) for the best big man and/or draft pick we can get.
PG Holiday / Turner
SG Iguodala / Meeks
SF Wallace / Young
PF Humphries or Ilyasova / Allen
C Vucevic / Cheap FA or #15 pick
might be a nice lineup. Basically you're subtracting Hawes, Brand, and Williams from the rotation, and adding Wallace and Humphries or Ilyasova and the #15 pick. Might not be a big talent upgrade, but should be similar talentwise as Brand is falling off the cliff and Hawes is nothing special. Plus a MUCH better cap situation, as we'd be able to fill out the roster using the mid-level exception the next couple of years to add additional rotaton pieces as we'd be well under the luxury tax.
