Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Kendall Marshall
If we draft this guy we still have the exact same roster we do now with Calderon. I'm sure he doesn't dribble the air out of the ball like Jose does but we'd still be lacking defense and scoring out of the PG spot. I'd rather draft a scorer whether its Lillard or one of the wing players. Demar can't be the 2nd option on the team next year if we want to make the playoffs.

He's my choice at 8 but it doesn't seem like he's even being considered. It baffles me cause he was hands down the best point guard in college this year, and had a huge impact on that UNC team. People are really overstating his offensive shortcomings. He's no worse than Rubio in that regard, and I'm sure most here would trade the 8th pick for Rubio in a heartbeat.

I'd love to trade 8 for Lowry and 14/16, then pick up Marshall with the mid first-rounder.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Kendall Marshall
Except he's not Rubio by a long shot. His Ast numbers are good, but not at Rubio's elite levels. His rebounding is weak comapared to Rubio, and Rubio also brings elite steals to the table while Marshallk doesn't. That's the stats. As far as the eye test goes, Marshall is a great passer and has great court vision, but he doesn't have quite the wow factor of some of the stuff Rubio does. Marshall is also slower of foot and I think he'll have more trouble defending his own position in the NBA.
Anyway, Marshall isn't Rubio, so lets not get caught up in false equivalencies.

I think you are underrating Rubio defensively. He is very disruptive and I don't see Marshall being even an average defender. I see Marshall dropping out of the lottery altogether mainly because he probably won't have any competitive workouts with anyone, and he won't be in great shape coming off his surgery. Couple that with below average athletic testing, I could see him dropping to late teens, early twenties. Not that I don't think he is talented, but he has real concerns about his shot and defense, and he won't really be able to address them because he isn't in game shape.
