Having said that, why would Deron come here if we can't even field a team around Nash well enough to keep him home?

Having said that, did we just start a new thread based off an article from NY Daily News???

Go outside and play guys.

some ture words you are saying, but i would love to see deron run this show, like him more than cp3..
but if nash decides to leave and you have a ton of capspace what you gonna do? exact go after the big fishes, so the article is nothing new to me..

Props to the great one

that would be a fun Orlando team! And i would probably root for them... Bring Hedo off the bench and start Dudley and we have something really close to the suns team from a few years ago. It'd be interesting to see if Q would be revived by Nash as well. He was stellar the year he was here... except in the playoffs. oops.

oh well... it'd never happen.

Interesting. Phoenix always been a great destination for point guards but we need to 'offer' Deron a different roster. What about some 'illegal' agreement that Dwight will join the team in 2013. It's kind of the same like the James, Wade and Bosh story. I believe it was set in stone for a long time, that they'll play together. To do this, we would have to add J-Smoove this offseason. and amnesty Childress. I think Grant would play for the minimum since he said he wants to play two more years.

2013:

PG: Deron Williams / ???
SG: Terrence Ross / Draft (?)
SF: Jared Dudley / Grant Hill
PF: Josh Smith / Markieff Morris
C: Dwight Howard / Channing Frye

After that, we'll face Steve Nash and the Miami Heat in the finals.:D

I don't know whether to laugh or to cry. The Suns contingency plan is to go after the biggest FA on the market? And their selling point is golf?

I wish I could write this off as pure nonsense from someone talking completely out their ass, but I honestly wouldn't put it past the Suns brass to think like this.

We're going to sell D.Will on golf? Gotta be kidding me...

I agree, if he's not going to stay in Brooklyn (with a rich owner, a ton of sponsorship and team improvement potential) because they can't sign Dwight, I see no reason why he would come here for the golf, the mediocre suppporting cast and a tighta$$ owner.

Definite downgrade from Nash. I'd much rather keep Steve, specially @ half the price.

That said, I wouldn't mind Deron if we're also planning on getting another guy like Dwight to be the face of the franchise. D-Will would make a nice Robin.

Saw this on the GB. Awesome post!

You are all seeing that wrong.

The pitch is not you can play Golf in Phoenix. The ultimative PHX sales pitch is you can play MORE golf in Phoenix. You know in LA, Dallas or maybe even Brooklyn you will have to play the annoying sport of basketball in late April May or even June. Not in Phoenix. There you can golf during that time as long and as much as you want.

Do not laugh so hard. Many of the Suns players past and present spent considerable time on the golf courses. It is a very popular diversion among many NBA players. In 93-94 you could often see Charles, Ainge, West and Majerle on the Encanto course after practice. You often see visiting players on the courses in Phoenix when they are here for more than a day. If Deron Williams is an avid golfer, go with it and sell him on the notion he can actually play here in the winter time. Send Eddie Johnson a fellow Illinois Alum and avid golfer to help with the recruiting. By the way i am not among those who think his fate is tied to D. Howard. He has said as much.

I would love to see Deron Williams in a Suns uniform with Nash next to him. What a superb backcourt that would be. He is at least as big as Eric Gordon that everyone covets and he is stronger. We would have 2 superb playmakers who can shoot and score. Very substantial improvement over what we have.

By the way many teams have done this - think of the 97 Suns that had KJ and Kidd with Nash as a reserve. Clippers with Mo Will and CP3 or CP3 and Billips. Nash wanted a playmaker to help with those duties and also wanted a scorer. Here they are all wrapped into one. Find a long scoring wing to go with it and the Suns are back in the mix. All of this is easier said than done.

Deron isn't worth a max contract.

Every team that he has been on has usually had more talent, great coaching, and yet has failed to accomplish what Nash has with the Suns.

If you're salivating over Deron at the max, just give Nash the three years he wants and save some money for next year's FA class. Let a Suns legend retire with the organization.

Deron Williams
Year 1 - $17.1m
Year 2 - $17.9m
Year 3 - $18.7m
Year 4 - $19.5m

Steve Nash
Year 1 - $10m
Year 2 - $10m
Year 3 - $10m

Nash getting paid leaves the Suns with an additional $14m in cap room, and that's without amnestying anyone.

Please reread what i said and if you can point out to me where I gave any indication I was "salivating for Deron at the max." I said nothing about what to pay him or whether I thought it would be a good idea to pay him a max contract that starts at $17 MM/year. If you can find it I'll buy you lunch. My lunch $$ is safe because it is not there. Do not read more into what I wrote than is there.

I have always been a proponent of resigning Nash and believe the Suns will do anything in reason to get him on board. My point is that he and Williams together would make a terrific backcourt - they would complement each other well and make all those around them better. Williams taking some of the playmaking load off Nash would also lengthen Nash's career.

I am also not proposing using the amnesty provision at this point. I believe it should only be used as a last resort. Too often people people throw it out there like it is no big deal, but I do know that paying Childerss more than 20 MM to go away is not likely to be a big hit with the Suns investment partners. Ask the Warriors if they would not like to have theirs back or whether they used theirs wisely.
