Trade Idea:MN-HOU-TOR

Post#1 » by Mattya » Sun Jun 3, 2012 2:23 am

MN In: KMart, Budinger, #8
MN Out: Derrick Williams, Darko, Martell, #18, Memphis first

Reason. Gets a couple of Adelman's guys, also gets us into top 10 to go after Beal, Lamb, Jones III, or a Center.

HOU In: Derozan, Darko, Webster
HOU Out:Kmart, Budinger

Houston gets a young prospect in Derozan, and ungarunteed contracts

TOR In: Derrick Williams, 18, Memphis first
TOR Out: Derozan, #8

Toronto, moves back while switching to Williams, looking to build around Williams and Val. Also pick up Memphis future first. It could be adjusted to give more value to Toronto, maybe give Miller for salary relief for Klieza or Johnson.

I think the other two teams make out a little better than we do, but I like it. Would rather cut Houston out as we get our SG and still have $ left, plus an upgraded pick.

I try to give other teams a little more to try to balance in case I have bias.

Depending on who was available at 8, I'd do it.

If Beal is there at #8, **** yes.99% sure he won't be, though.

100% he won't. He'll go top 5.

As for the trade, I like it. You could even cut out Houston and try to get DD but he has a lot of work to do. With Martin, we get a sure thing. 8th pick could be used as a trade chip if we decided not to go the young route.

Toronto says no to this one. One could argue that DWill and Derozan have similar values - some would argue that Derozan is MORE valuable than DWill. In either case, that results in Toronto trading the #8 pick for the #18 pick and a conditional pick. No value there.

The only way I see something along these lines happening results in Calderon getting shipped to say Houston. Houston is getting too good of a value here IMO. They need to take back Calderon's money to get Derozan out of Martin and Budinger - and perhaps Houston then gets the picks from MN or at least one of them.

I would agree with cutting out Houston, but I would be using Derozan as a SF and not a SG. I think he's out of position at the 2. The problem with trades to and from Toronto is that they would need to move Bargnani to be interested in Williams. Valuncianas may haunt us as he plays defensive-minded C for them and keeps Bargnani at PF. Williams really has no more of a role there than he does here.

Play Derozan at the 3 and draft a SG.....could be interesting.

I'd switch it up to:

MN In: KMart, Budinger, #8
MN Out: Derrick Williams, Darko, Martell, Memphis 20131st

HOU In: Derozan, Darko, Webster
HOU Out:Kmart, Budinger, 16th

TOR In: Derrick Williams, 16th, Memphis 2013 first
TOR Out: Derozan, #8

seems more fair for all involved imo (note that houston already has the 14th pick)

I'd do it. Not sure if it makes a lot of sense for Toronto, though. If they are sending out Derozan I think they'd want to keep their pick and draft Lamb. I guess if they like Waiters or Ross they might pull the trigger. :dontknow:

Just cut out Houston completely. Derozan is much better than Kmart

With Bargnani, Valanciunas and Ed Davis, Toronto has no need for Derek Williams. Of all the teams that are constantly thrown out there as a trade partner, they may be the worst fit of them all.

With that said, I would go for this from a Wolves perspective.

As a Minnesota fan, I say yes. In fact, I think it's slightly too good for Minnesota and slightly too bad for Houston, so I'd take out Darko's salary dump. Houston then replaces Martin/Budinger with Derozan/cap space after dropping Webster's contract.

I'd rather grab one of Houston's younger wings than Martin obviously, but the deal all around is pretty nice.
