Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXV: Offseason Edition)
Reading thru Kyler's tweets, it looks like Memphis wants no part of the luxury tax and they want to re-sign Speights and Mayo. If that's the case, a team with cap space to absorb Gay's deal will win the Gay sweepstakes.
So that rules out my idea of him going to Philly or ATL. He could get traded for a lottery pick+$12 mill of contracts imo. Essentially, any team would have to send MEM $12 mill worth of player contracts and be able to take back Gay's deal. We'd be able to do that if they're serious about cutting cash. I don't see how the Nets can do that. If you add up all the contracts they have on the books, it comes up short of $12 mill.

and Gay was the best player on a team that took the Clippers to game 7.
i would trade Anderson for Gay in a HEARTBEAT. Gay can create his own shots, and is good in the clutch.

the perfect candidate - Sacramento.
Kings: Anderson S&T
Grizz: JJ (expiring/unguaranteed) + 19th pick
Orlando: Gay

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXV: Offseason Edition)
ORL Receives: Rudy Gay
PHI Receives: JJ Redick/Glen Davis/19th pick
MEM Receives: Andre Iguodala
Swap Ryan for BBD in there if Ryan agrees to sign in Philly. If not, we'll re-sign him.
Another idea...
ORL Receives: Rudy Gay
DAL Receives: JJ Redick/Glen Davis/19th pick
MEM Receives: Lamar Odom (expiring)/Vince Carter (expiring)
Dallas may accept J-Rich instead of JJ too and Memphis may accept Shawn Marion instead of Lamar Odom.

I'm tired of going after mediocre players and expecting superstar results. Fine if you want Rudy Gay, but don't go around acting like he's going to bring us a championship ring.

Gay would an amazing 3rd option. You're right though. He isn't putting us over the top. What we need is an elite pg to go with Dwight and somebody like Rudy.
Dwight
CP3/Deron/Rondo
Gay
That is a championship nucleus.

their purpose is to balance salary. they could sign Anderson outright, and force us to match, but in this case, they take Anderson for $8M, which means when we take back Gay's $15M it all balances out.
Sacramento could maybe include a future first to memphis or something, but their pick this year would be too much to include, IMO.
Memphis don't get much out of this, except for a salary dump.

He's not a superstar, but he's also not mediocre. He would still be an upgrade over any other player we've teamed with Dwight imo. It's not like we have a ton of options... we need to take what we can get, so if Rudy is available, I say we go for it. Dwight needs convincing.

Absolutely nothing to this. We don't even have somebody's sources here. We're talking about according to some "report".
Hooray for mindless bloggers! You got a fellow blogger at www.orlandopinstripedpost.com to acknowledge your post.
Other teams can offer more for Gay. Period.

That's good and all but if we poll'ed NBA GMs I would bet that at least 70% would choose Rudy over Ryan.
