I doubt it. GM's are pretty savvy guys, they see past the pretty PPG or the "ZOMG he can get his own shot" stuff. Advanced stats are the wave of the future.

eryiq.... the man love for Ryno is cute and all, but you're actually starting to sound serious... so that cuteness is turning into ridiculousness.

WT: says the GM Neil Olshey for the Clippers just quit. Does anyone know what his background looks like?

You need a great PnR guard like Jameer to feed BBD. And also some possessions. That's tough to keep giving him if you slot him next to Dwight. Although his defense and underrated excellent picks/sets is a plus, I think Ryan is more important for us since we're trying to keep Dwight. He seemed to play relatively decent without Dwight and is a great off. rebounder. His playoffs are the blemish but we had no Dwight and our roster lacks go to scorers so the playoff prep against Ryan was probably too effective.

I think Ryan is a must keep. Especially if Dwight's around. The way to get BBD a better season this go around would be to keep trying to fitting him alongside Dwight in certain match ups, and to get a backup PG/wing who will learn to PnR it with BBD as a heavy bench scoring option, which should be a better efficient move easily than most bench plays, like maybe getting JJ to PnR it BBD much more like that JJ/Gortat PnR was many times. I'd 3rd string Duhon for a better PnR backup PG pickup, maybe even Ish can get chemistry off BBD in offense, but even Duhon might have the potential to do PnRs with BBD because he was once a heavy PnR guard. It's all realizing what BBD can do from the playoffs and getting him and the bench guy to watch that tape and replicate it for the reg season. It could need a better backup guard involved though, Jameer and BBD are scorers.

In my hopes to get Chris Paul in 2013, hearing that the Clippers aren't keeping Neil Olshey makes me very happy. He was their GM to complete the Paul trade, go after Billups, and essentially, turn around their franchise. Since he won't be there next season, it shows the incompetence of the organization.

I'm hoping we make some great hires and moves to: a) keep Dwight, & b) recruit Paul to team up with Dwight in Orlando. One domino at a time...

playoffs USG - Gay 25%/Anderson 16%

the Magic went to guys like Baby, Nelson, Redick, Turk, JRich all over Anderson.

he's not at all, but he's a major upgrade over who we've got, and i'm not convinced there are many options that are major upgrades over that. a Dwight/Gay combo is a great starting point, and just needs that second star to compliment them both and bring them together.

Comes down to who do you want in that other max salary slot to pair with Dwight? Going to be near impossible to have 3 max players and still have solid role players.

Take a chance and role with Gay/Dwight combo for the next 5-6 yrs?
Save cap space and make a hard push for Harden? If it doesn't workout, Ellis is plan B?
Chris Paul?

I think guys like Redick, Davis, & sometimes Jameer, are very good role players to have on championship teams. We can keep them all and just make the right addition and push us over the top.

I would take Josh Smith over Rudy Gay. Neither deserves that Max contract. Same with Ellis. Gay is way overpaid. Maybe can get Smith for $12-14 mil and then fill out the roster with a good PG or Ellis.

Hopefully they can see past the playoff disappearance and the whole "I am a spot up shooter" thing, too, lol.

But but but I thought it was because the Pacers sole defensive gameplay was to shut down Ryan at all costs

There have been rumors the Magic are very close to naming a new general manager. If that is true, it will not be former Knicks and Pacers GM Donnie Walsh taking the helm.

That according to David Aldridge at NBA.com (in his must-read Monday column). Walsh pulled himself out of the running, and is not going to Indiana either.

So who is left?

The Magic’s GM list is five: former Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard, Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey, Thunder assistant GM Troy Weaver, Thunder assistant GM and head of player personnel Rob Hennigan and former Hornets GM Jeff Bower.

Magic officials have said the new GM will make the call on Dwight Howard and whether or not to trade him. Which if Howard is not going to commit to stay is a no brainer. Then the GM chooses the coach. Basically, this GM gets to oversee the rebuilding of the Magic. So it’s a big choice.

I want Kevin Pritchard. I just don't trust these Assistant GM guys with no actual track record in this situation, we can't afford 1st timer mistakes and learning on the job.

Bower has a record, but it is a sketchy one, so thats a no for me, might as well go with one of the rookie apprentices.

Pritchard did a solid job, the only think that held his draft picks were injuries. He did a good job of re-building that Portland squad.
A smart coach once said, "Potential just means you're not good enough yet." Playing on potential is like living on air: It's essential, but if thats all you have, you're eventually going to starve.

berger:

The Orlando Magic's GM position remains vacant, with former Hornets GM Jeff Bower believed to be the favorite. Orlando is on track to have a GM in place with 7-10 days to spare before the June 28 draft, a person familiar with the process said.
