yup, sounds like a move we would make. hiring a gm who has a questionable track record and was instrumental in running his stars out of town. good god.

Bower got lucky with Chris Paul. That doesn't make him a good GM.

Bower didn't even draft CP3. He wasn't there yet.

From a Nola website:

http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ssf/2012/05/would_former_new_orleans_horne.html

Consider these names: Hilton Armstrong, Cedric Simmons, Julian Wright, Darren Collison, Marcus Thornton, Quincy Pondexter.

And this: Tyson Chandler traded for Emeka Okafor.

Former New Orleans Hornets general manager and one-time head coach Jeff Bower's legacy with the Hornets is a checkered one, to be sure.

Now Bower is being touted as a possible GM candidate for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Bower's Hornets' drafts were spotty at best when players such as Armstrong, Simmons and Wright are put into the mix, none of the three still playing in the NBA. Collison, Thornton and Pondexter are currently on NBA rosters.

And Bower likely overpaid when he signed Peja Stojakovic to a free-agent contract.

Now, for some Nola peoples comments

Considering I think he was a horrid GM who was responsible for the dearth of assets that eventually caused CP to look around and go "Uhhh yeah, I'm out of here", I'm totally fine with a competing team hiring him.

Chris Paul and David West were drafted by general managers who preceded Jeff Bower in the chair. West was a selection by Bob Bass and Paul was picked by Allan Bristow. Credit Bower for Tyson Chandler on that 2007-08 team. Right now, the only Bower-signed player on the roster is Emeka Okafor. Thanks for the input.

Bower has experience at crippling teams with bad drafts, bad trades and signings to attract a new owner.

I wouldn't let Jeff Bower manage a sno- ball stand for me.

Say goodbye to Dwight Howard if we hire Bower. No doubt about that.

So much for championship pedigree, Bower would be THE most uninspiring candidate we can hire.

You also said Heat would beat Celts 4-1. So what you're really saying here is Magic will NOT hire Bower by the end of the week...

Let's hope I'm wrong about this also :)

F this franchise if they think Bower is the best choice. Like I've been saying, he has done NOTHING impressive and if you think a team like the Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, Thunder would consider hiring Bower if their GMs left for some reason, you're crazy.

We'll hire Bower because Martins knows him and he isn't a strong presence who will stand up to Martins behind the scenes.

Remember Bower had some serious financial constraints from that one owner, and probably a lesser FO/scouting staff than other franchises, but yes, I'm also not digging him for GM. He'd be among my last choices.

I'm hoping the Magic take a hard run at these guys and one of them comes over:

Lindsey
Weaver
Hennigan
Pritchard
Morway

He had major financial restraints but didn't have a problem giving big money to an old Peja and trading for Okafor's albatross...
