I would want more than just the 24th pick. That doesn't present enough value regardless of the similar levels of talent in that range

One thing I haven't heard mentioned is that we could flat out buy a pick from someone.

A good read about relative value of draft picks for the stat junkies out there:

They have Drummond's ceiling at Serge Ibaka.

He can be so much more IMO.

Trade #2 or Stay Put? (poll)

Post#167 » by Eoghan » Tue Jun 5, 2012 5:16 am

Would you rather:

Stay at number 2 and draft your man-crush of the month b/c he's going to be the greatest evar!!!!1!1!

OR

Draft either Washington's/Cleveland's/Sacramento's/Portland's man-crush player and rape them in a draft-day trade, picking up whatever BPA remains and the best package, including taking some of their best assets and/or giving them our bad contracts?

I think the latter could easily happen if we draft either Beal or MKG.

Stay put draft BPA Beal and if we can't make a trade happen with Maggs or somebody else then call it a day.

I have a pretty big crush on Gilchrist. So I hope we stay.

I would trade if it is clear the other team is overpaying. If it is only a fair and reasonable swap, I'd rather have T-Rob.

I think you enjoy the luxury of taking the player you want most of all unless you KNOW you can trade down and still acquire them while picking up assets. I trust Cho here.

I would only consider trading with Cleveland IF it is clear we can still get T-Rob at 4. Not sure who they want, and who the Wiz would take.

Today I'm all for T-Rob. I am open to seeing if the combine and workouts reveal a better choice in Beal, but I have too many doubts about Drummond or MKG to take them at 2. But, the beauty of trading the 2 for the 4 & 24 is that you still get a quality player at 4 and add a contributor later in the round. Trading w/Portland for the 6 & 11 (still doubt they would do that) moves us too far out of the impact players.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Have to think that Porland's new GM will want to make a splash now. So if he wants that #2, he may be willing to swing for the fences and overpay Cho. Just a thought.

:( :o :-? Forgeting the combines and just reading this past college season analysis on each of these players other than Davis a team picking at 25 may get the same quality of player as a team picking #2-#5. For that reason I believe Cho/MJ should trade the #2 pick and Augustine and maybe others on the Bobcats team for the best we can get. We need to change this team and forget that last season we had the worst team ever in NBA History. In our teams history, how many players have been offered contracted extensions where they stayed. GW is the only one I remember and he was traded for nothing. Augustine will not stay and with Kemba here we won't match any RFA offers coming in. Other than Hendo he is the only decent trade piece we have got ,so you trade him to either NOH or Houston.
NOH may not be interested in giving the 10th pick up straight for him,but if so we should take Marshall at 10. Whether NOH agrees determines what we do with the second pick. If they don't agree then I would package Augustine,Carroll, with #2 to Houston for Lowery and #14 and #16(possibly 2013 2nd). At 14 Take Zellar(c) UNC, At 16 take TROSS(sf) Washington, and at 31 take John Jenkins(sg) Vandy.
We pick up young veteran starting point, and 3 solid bench players.
Read the Bio's on these guys on Draft express and look at Lowery's NBA stats!

I like the idea of trading the #2 to the Cavs for #4,#24, and Varejo. Use #4 to draft T-Rob, then trade #24 and Hendo for Phoenix #13 and draft T.Ross. I know people will say "How can we be sure that Ross is better than Hendo?" well we cant but I think Ross will bea a really good starter and Hendo just isnt.

I'm going to throw out another scenario that is starting to grow on me.

If Robinson is indeed shorter than we'd like, and the other potentials for #2 continue to show their warts, if Portland will trade 6 & 11 to us for #2 (so they can take the chance on another big named Drummond), I think we could score big by drafting the following:

#6 - The best player between Beal, Lamb, Ross or Barnes: Yes, Beal could slide to 6 but I doubt it. Lamb is an option but I'm concerned about his lack of competitiveness and physicality. Terrence Ross is rising and I think he could ultimately be the best SG in this draft. Barnes scares me and I do not want him, but his combination of skills and fit might be too much to pass on here.

#11 - Arnett Moultrie: I really like Moultrie. He has many of the same attributes as Robinson, is a quality rebounder, has a great jumper with range for a big man, and would fit our situation as well as Robinson.

This would likely give us 2 starters from this draft to go with our rookies last year. The $1M question is, are they good enough downstream to become impact players? If we're not very sure about the options at 2, then getting TWO quality players may be the better way to go.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
