you make it sound so very black and white when life is not like that. people don't have to balance their lives to be happy, some people work all the time but they love what they do. some people play video games all day and they love what they do (opposites of both those and everything else exist- along with all varying degrees in between)

the endgame is: find something that you enjoy doing and do it as much as you can, but do what you want to do- don't let someone else live your life- live your own

You just compared video games to drugs. Enough said.

There may be a benefit of video games to you, but for me there isn't enough benefit with all things considered.

these other things that you do, do you spend money, time and energy on those? what's the difference?

i think you misunderstand what i mean by balance. it doesnt mean that you split time doing things, it means you find what is right for you. if playing video games and going out and having fun is what you want then do that, its not all about balancing work/fun, its about finding balance for you in whatever it is youre doing.

although imo, if you do focus on one thing only like that its much harder to find happiness. i have personally never met anybody that is happy that doesnt have balance in their lives to some sort of degree.

video games helps me relax and gives me enjoyment. this makes me a happy person and thus more productive at work, in my relationships, and with myself. i don't call that a waste of time!

i mean, watching the damn lakers game is a waste of time too all things considered by sofa's definition.

Of course and theres a big difference. I work to earn money. I meet people for the sake of making friends, lasting relationships in life, for business, etc. I exercise, go for a walk, sometimes with other friends and family and by doing so I stay healthy. I travel to see different cultures, and ways of life like I am doing so right now in China. The experiences that I listed does not compare to playing games. I can even say playing video games is a selfish act that doesn't benefit anyone but yourself.

lol how is traveling not a selfish act then. that doesnt benefit anyone but yourself and i have a hard time seeing otherwise.i mean, i meet people playing games that i have friendships with and play games with friends, so i dont really see where youre going with this. you dont like playing video games and feel like its a waste of time, im fine with that and get it. but lets not make sweeping generalizations here.

Being a Laker fan is different. I get to bond and converse with friends, online people, and strangers about sports. I found more people to talk to about sports than video games especially in real life. For me its more fun.

Don't get me wrong, video games is just another form of entertainment like everything else. I just don't see the benefit in keeping up with it.

well, gonna make you more jelly.

i think i mentioned before that im getting married, well thats in 2.5 weeks. this weekend we planned out our "honeymoon" road trip. we take off june 29th and head to at&t park to catch the giants vs reds. then we go with family of hers in seattle for july 4th festivities and catch a game at safeco. then on the way down we're going to catch an a's game (i know i know, coliseum sucks, but gotta cross it off the list).
