The Value of Derrick Favors?

Post#1 » by ComboGuardCity » Sat Jun 2, 2012 8:56 pm

Personally I see a guy like Favors and I see a legitimate star in a couple years. However, how do you value him compared to Kanter, Millsap, Jefferson? I understand the Jazz are looking to get into the lottery, so is favors a piece you'd be willing to give up?

Such as #9 Pick, 2013 Unprotected First Round Pick, Jonas Jerebko.

Does that package get Favors or Kanter or is the Jazz front office keen on using that Okur exception to land a bigger name?

We all feel, and I think the organization feels, like you do: Favors has major star potential. While we think Kanter has good potential, Derrick is the guy who excites us the most.

I don't think the Jazz would entertain the offer you lay out there, because they see him as a piece that can be built around. Unprotected picks are extremely appealing, but I think we already have the top-5 draft pick we want long-term in the form of Mr. Favors.

He has the highest value out of anyone on the current Jazz roster.

Here is the young player values as I see them at the end of the year...

Favors (by a mile)
Hayward
Burks and Kanter are the same

Favors will not be going anywhere outside of free agency unless we get a superstar back.

I think people forget the crazy amount of hype young chandler got and him being called a future 2-way star. People got dissapointed with chandler when they realized how hard it is too improve your scoring. Theres a reason they got similar numbers and Favors shooting numbers are equally atrocious (Check hoop Data for his percentages from different ranges).

I love Favors alot as a player, but without AL we suck offensively. If AL goes then and we don't get any good consistent scorers in return then no ones off limits. Gotta score consistently to win and no one is doing on this team but AL. Millsap removed himself from this conversation by disappering in important moments (and not just this year) and his crappy playoff performance.

Wouldn't trade him for any pick in this 2012 draft besides the #1.

Yeah, you don't get a player like Favors--young super athletic big guy with size and defensive acumen--for anything short of a current star. He's about to explode onto the scene next year. Only way the Jazz consider giving him up is as a package for a current star or super star. We've spent so long looking for a guy like him, there's no way we part with him otherwise.

Kanter is a different story. He's still far enough away that its feasible that he could bust. Even with his excellent potential, you might be able to dig him out for the right package. The offer you suggest only becomes appealing if the Jazz feel that the future pick has a decent shot at being a top 5 pick. Given the nice nucleus that Detroit is assembling with Monroe, Knight, Stuckey, Jerebko et al, its hard to see that happening. So then it becomes a question of a couple good-but-not-great picks or a boom/bust prospect like Kanter. Probably something we'd pass on, but it might be considered depending on how they feel about Enes and his future prospects.

Offensive sucks so bad we went 4-1 w/o Al and averaged over 100 points per game. Cmon people open your eyes, Al isn't the golden boy you potray him as.

Thanks for all the feedback. It seems like the Jazz are set in the front court with even excluding kanter so he might be attainable.

IMO Favors is the most untradable player the Jazz have. Not sure I'd trade him for any pick in this draft, though admittedly I don't know how good Davis is supposed to be.

Ya but I'm guessing that every NBA team would take Chandler over Jefferson right now.
