Does Utah want Andre Iguodala??

Post#1 » by JordanMars » Tue Jun 5, 2012 9:33 pm

On the sixers board there are rumors from our insider that the Jazz and Sixers are discussing a deal that would Send Andre Iguodala to Utah for Big Al Jefferson.

Would you guys be interested in the deal?? Im all for it as a sixers fan desperate for a big man that can score in the paint.

Iguodala is pretty good, but with the new salary cap tax it is very hard to have players that make $10M+.

The value is kind of close, but the Jazz probably wont do it.

I keep going back and forth on Iguodala....... He's a great defender, but he can't be the number one scoring option...... He would work great with Hayward and Favors, but where is our scoring going to come from?

For all of Jefferson's faults, I would still take good offense over good defense....... On the other hand, Iguodala is a good defender, and in the right system could be a very good and effecient scorer......

So at the end of the day...... I don't know what I would do......

I was once for Iggy, but am no longer willing to do this.

Basically Iggy/Granger will be outside their prime when our young core is ready to compete... so there is no point in going after them. We need to commit to either Al or Paul and move forward. Personally I like the idea of trading Paul because i think he will get us the most in a trade. Jefferson may or may not be the better between he and Paul but he has the size for his position and Favors will cover up a lot of his weaknesses on D.

Everything we are doing this off-season and for the next year should be to set ourselves up to get a star young player and picks. We need to trade Millsap or Jefferson for a pick in the top 6 this year and pick up Drummond or Barnes, and keep our cap free to make a run at Harden, or Eric Gordon or some other young wing stud to pair with our core of Favors/Hayward/Burks/Kanter.

They should be going after Drummond/Barnes or Lillard in the draft, and then clearing further space to go after Eric Gordon.

Doesn't Iggy have a player option to go one year further than Jefferson?

I would say yes, if we're trading Millsap. Otherwise I'd rather look for something else.

Iggy would be a great pickup.
Jazz_Man_86 on Favors:

"He is not Dwight Howard. He's max is 20 + 13 + 2 = is this a supers tats? No."

Dwight 2011-2012 - 20.6 Points - 14.5 Rebounds - 2.1 Blocks

I would take Iggy over Big Al as I would like to see Favors play more. I also think Kanter benefits from this as well.

Defensively you are looking at Favors, Millsap, Iggy, Gordon, and Harris. Pretty good defensively.

Offensively we have seen moments from Favors and Gordon for that will have to expand to make this work. I think Burks will bring a lot of fire power from the bench as well.

Iggy and Favors make us a defensive nightmare. People seriously overrate Al's offense, 19 points on 17 shots is not hard to do. Give Favors 17 shots a game and he scores 19 pretty easily next year.

Yeah Iggy is going to make $14.7 next season with a player option of $15.9 million (he would be STUPID not to pick up that option in my opinion)...Jefferson will be in his last year of his contract next season making $15 million.

It's a lot to pay for a SG/SF, I don't fully understand why the 76ers are open to trade him?..Are they worried they'll lose him for nothing after next season? Has he not played well? Looking at his numbers he seems to play well just his contract is pretty high for a guy averaging 12 points a game..with the player option; Iggy could walk but then again so will Jefferson to the highest bidder if he chooses....

I actually like the trade - very expensive contract though and his numbers are down from previous years but I'm not sure if that's because of other players taking over (he played the same amount of minutes), I'll be honest I haven't seen much of Andre Iguodala but it would force Kanter and Favors to takeover. I'd be worried about this being a "Bell" situation but he is 28.. but our defense would really shore up :D .. we can score easy but we cannot defend.

I like it but very expensive. Give them Bell or watson for a gift at the same time.

I don't like killing the cap for Iguodala. I wish he was on a 1 year deal as well.

But if a deal did go down I would probably get really excited as a fun. Just cause, you know

The Jazz aren't getting Iggy to be a big scoring option, he can be a facilitator and someone who can play ELITE defense, and gives us more athleticism.

Also, he is only 28. He is entering his prime and will be there for years.

Next year is a wash. So we would absorb one year at 15-16m on our 13-14 cap. Since we only have 4 players (Burks/Hayward/Favors/Kanter) for that season, we have TONS of room to play with. Even with Iguodala hitting our cap that year, we would still have plenty of room to sign a max free agent AND a mid-level guy. If we could flip Al for Iggy and re-sign Deron Williams, I think that team could compete for a championship next year.

I'm in the pro-Iggy camp. I know the Jazz are jealously protecting their cap space, but the likelihood of landing a top tier free agent seems slim. We are better off trading that cap space and upgrading our talent. Iggy is a great piece, but he alone doesn't make us a championship contender. It is a step in the right direction, though.

I think Iggy would not only increase the team defense (as would replacing Jefferson with Favors), but I think that he could easily score 6pts per game more at that position than we got from Howard and CJ this past year.

In fact, his TS% is way higher than CJ or Howard's last year. Yet, his usage rate was lower than CJ or Howard's. If the Jazz use Iggy as much as CJ or Howard, he could even get back to the upper-teens average scoring he had a few years ago.

In fact, if Iggy could score 16-18pts on average, and his defense results in a positive net gain of 4 pts per game, I wouldn't be too worried about the loss of offense due to Jefferson leaving.
