Scouting Report:
Brewers: The Brewers inproved to 7-1 in Vargas' starts after rallying to beat the Twins last weekend at Miller Park. He lasted only four innings Sunday in his poorest outing of the year, allowing five Minnesota runs on six hits and a season-high six walks. Vargas has a 2.68 ERA in eight career appearances against the Padres and is 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA in four games at PETCO Park, where the large dimensions suit his fly-ball style.
Padres: There's still a chance this start could go to Clay Hensley, who could be activated from the disabled list to start, though Germano certainly has thrown well enough to stay in the rotation. Germano allowed one unearned run on six hits over six innings against Seattle on May 20, getting 11 groundball outs. He's 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA in three starts filling in for Hensley.

Captain Erv's Thoughts: The Brewers finally showed some life in the 6th and 7th inning last night, but it was too little too late. This team really needs to avoid the things that have crippled them in the past such as bad defense and the inability to get runners in. Germano has been pitching out of his mind and he has to come out of it sometime. If our bats can get going we can spike that 0.47 ERA.
