Are NBA Players Overpaid?

Post#1 » by sammyvine » Wed Jun 6, 2012 10:05 am

I just saw that Garnett has taken $300m in wages alone. You look at what the likes of Kobe, Shaq, Lebron have earned throughout their NBA Career etc.....

I mean that is outstanding when you compare their salary's to doctor's etc...

Yes they do, they have a grueling schedule which I guess justifies it somewhat, but yea, the salaries are too high especially since the precedent was set by the Jordan's and Bird's of the league after they had PROVEN their greatness.

I say restructure so only guys who are 27+ can sign 14+mil deals per year.
Once outta rookie contracts max should be ~8mil per year until 27.

Just my opinion.

That money has to go somewhere.

Would you prefer that the billionaire owners get even richer?

I can't believe you guys are so ignorant about the whole Supply & Demand concept.

Where do you want the rest of the money to go? You already have maximum salary cap instilled. More money to the owners? They are the ones who profit like mad from this whole business with so many regulations surrounding player contracts. A player isn't even able to choose the team he plays for during his first 8 years or so of his career if he is good.

If you are so worried about players earning so much salary then you should stop boosting ratings of the NBA by watching it on tv and start pirating the games or something.

It is simply down to people caring more about watching sports, than paying taxes to support the national health care. Whoopie.

Are NBA owners overpaid?

Last I heard a lot of teams were losing money and owning an NBA team was for people who didn't care about losing some cash.

NBA players are overpaid.

If you can afford a personal hair dresser to follow you around the country just to make sure your complicated hairstyle stays "full sexy" then you're not exactly roughing it.

We don't teach economics in school anymore? It has nothing to do with the fact that there are more doctors than NBA players or the fact that they have a grueling schedule. I am worry about what kinds of education my kids will get when I see posts like this

Nice job making a statement without backing it up with actual numbers and then providing some anecdote to make an emotional appeal.

Please debunk the whole supply & demand concept if you want to prove nba players are overpaid.

So you're worried your kid might attempt to be a professional athlete? awwwwwwe. My heart goes out to you.

Of course economics isn't taught in school, aside from entry level banking jobs you need a degree and massive amounts of focus on that one subject to have anything more than a guess. Even then most economists disagree.

I'm all for NBA players getting a pay cut. Jordan said many years ago people are paid on potential now in the NBA and he's exactly right. So many 7mil contracts for players who don't even play much, usually because they are tall. Theres your supply and demand.

I was thinking about this the other day and it's astonishing the money these guys make.

I'm from Australia and our star football players make around the $300,000 - $400,000 range. You guys don't want to know what our star basketball players make because I can honestly say, I'd make more than half of the players (that's not saying much)
