If the HEAT get eliminated by Boston, maybe we can get LeBron or Wade when they realize that pairing won't work.

What? Utah is NOT giving him away, and I think this trade makes sense for both teams.

Gsraider wrote: I might be more interested in him if they could somehow include Favors in the deal with him.... I have no clue what Utah thinks of Favors mind you, but his value has seemingly been up and down over the last year or two. His upside is enormous in any event and Utah may simply not be willing to part with that.

No chance on Favors. He's basically untouchable.
The Sixer Fixer wrote:People, Al Jefferson really isn't a low post scorer like you think. He has become a jump shooting big man. Look at the stats.

SWR hit the nail on the head. Those stats are misleading, and Al is not just a post scorer, but a very good, if not great one. The knocks on his efficiency and defense are legit, but nobody who watches him play on a regular basis would call him more of a jump shooter than a post player. That's just not accurate.

sixerswillrule wrote:The percentages are off there because 82games for some reason counts jumpers as anything that's not at the rim or close to the rim, such as hook shots from 5-10 feet.

Gsraider wrote:That said, I'm not sure I really like this trade. I just think that Jefferson is a better player than he's being given credit for.

Good post, and I agree. Al is better than Realgm would let you believe, but I don't blame sixer fans for being skeptical. His offense is automatic much of the time, but he defense often negates it. I think it's a toss up with low risk.

I have no interest in AlJeff unless Jazz are looking to dump him and go all young. No way I move Iggy for him. It would only make sense for Iggy and Al to play together... which I don't think gets us over the top, so I look for different options.

If I'm looking to make a deal with UTA I'd prefer to target Kanter, somehow. I think he's more 'available' then Favors.

Kanter is certainly more available than Favors but I don't see Utah giving up either of them. If I were Utah I'd move Millsap over either of the young guys. I really like Millsap, but for Iggy? I dunno.

They haven't done anything yet, jeez. All this speculation is just that. I'm sure they have had discussions internally, but even they probably don't know what they are going to do yet.

well...SF1976 said they are not trading Iguodala for draft picks, and that they are young enough (which I think is bull, we don't have any young player with star potential, except maybe Jrue)

I guess I will have to hope SF1976 got lied to or something? I am just worried that this team will do it wrong again, just like the Iverson deal

Stats can begin to tell a story and provide a lot of insight in many cases, but sometimes it helps to just watch a lot of the games. My son is an NBA junkie and watches the NBA Ticket all night long during the season. I have watched my share of all the teams play and a decent amount of Utah, since my son wants to see how D. Favors is doing compared to E. Turner. From what I have gathered, Jefferson shoots more of the mid-range jumper than I remember him taking early on in his career, but is still at his best in the post and still gets it in that position more often than not. I knew it wasn't accurate, but then again, does it matter? The bigger issues are his defense, his expiring contract next year, and the fact that it could just be a lateral move, whereby Philly gets better offensively and drops significantly defensively.

Personally, I am interested in Jefferson, but not necessarily for Iguodala and if it has to be for him, I would need more to the package, which may not be reasonable from Utah's side. On that note, I have no clue why anyone would view Favors as untouchable. The enormous potential he shows on occasion is pretty much the same as what he has shown in NJ and flashed in Utah. There are a lot of guys who do that, but not all of them piece it all together. Reluctant I could see, but untouchable? Seriously.

I still think we can keep Iguodala, Jrue, and Turner and take a step forward this off-season. Unless you can swing a deal for someone like Bynum, I'd be hesitant to break that trio apart. They lock down the perimeter as good as any team in the NBA while making us one of the better transition teams in the league. That's a piece to a championship puzzle and I honestly believe we have enough young talent and cap flexibility outside of JIT to become a better, more well-rounded team this off-season.

If Brand gets amnestied, and we are unable to lure guys like Harden and Deron to Philly, then I'd make a strong push for Ryan Anderson and Asik. Two solid young big men that make us better on both sides of the ball. Anderson's shooting complements JIT perfectly and he's an underrated rebounder/scorer in the paint. Asik is a solid post defender who clogs the lane like few others can. They are the two guys I'd hope get strong consideration as they complement our core and actually make us a better team... Humphries and Kaman wouldn't be terrible contingency options.

Let Hawes walk

I would also let Lou walk if he opts out and see if Andre Miller/Hinrich want to run our 2nd unit for a low $ deal. If we have enough $ left, make a play for CJ Miles.

This is so simple. YOu trade Iggy for Jefferson and you then have Jefferson at the 4 and play LAvoy Allen at the 5. Lavoy can rebound and defend the better of the 2 players. Lavoy and Jefferson are the perfect compliment. And it will also give you Brand, Jefferson, Lavoy and Vucevic. But if you are able to find a decent player at the 3 with the MLE or if you use Hawes money or Lous money you can find a decent player there. And then after next year, you have Brand and Jefferson coming off the books. You can resign Jefferson at for a lesser number like 10m per year. And you will be in good shape.

Agreed with the above on some levels. Jefferson at PF and Lavoy at C works for me, but not full time. Lavoy is not ready to start and play 36mpg yet. I think you need to play Jefferson/Lavoy, and bring in 2 quality players off the bench. 1 can be Vuc, who will likely improve going into next season. He's the offensive piece who plays Center. So, you need a defensive minded PF who can occasionally play next to Jefferson in the lineup.

That's where I think you need to draft a guy like John Henson. He's a great defender and shot blocker. He's legit 6'11 and LONG. He's going to need to add weight and muscle, but there's nothing about his career at UNC that proves he can't do that with time. He changed dramatically in his 3 years at UNC. I know he's projected at #9 to the Pistons, so you'll need to get into the top 8 to nab him.

Iggy for Jefferson and Watson, then Brand amnestied and use that money to sign Lavoy and a free agent SF who plays D. Then Turner, #15, 2nd round pick, and future 2nd round pick for Matthews and #6?

Jrue/Watson
Matthews/Meeks
Free Agent/S. Young
Jefferson/Henson
Lavoy/Vucevic

Can it be done? Is it not a good lineup? I personally think Jrue/Matthews is a good combo, and Jefferson/Lavoy is too. And the bench would look nice IMO.

I was going to respond to this, but you hit it on the head right there. I think if you acquire Jefferson to play PF or C, you need to put an athletic minded, shot blocking big man next to him and I'm not sure that's how I would describe Allen. In Utah, if he was more refined, I would actually think a guy like Favors would be an excellent fit alongside of him, but he still has a long ways to go.

I would imagine that teams would exploit the hell out of the lack of quickness and footspeed that comes from a pairing of Jefferson and Allen, with pick and rolls coming in waves.

If the plan is to deal for Jefferson, then I agree John Henson would make a nice pairing with him. He does need to add 10-15 lbs though. He has the length, shot blocking ability and athleticism to work well with Jeff. If he can work on expanding the range on his jumper, he would be even better so he could draw the D out of the paint a little.

Jefferson in a trade for Iggy
Brand Amnestied and McGee signed.

Jrue, Turner, MLE for SF, Jefferson , and McGee. Thad, Allen, Vucevic, Meeks from Bench. WE also have a draft pick also.

Just an FYI

If we amnesty Brand to have the cap space to sign McGee, then we don't have the MLE. We would have that LLE (or whatever it's called). I think it's like 2.5 mil/yr or something like that.

We could probably send you CJ Miles in some sort of S&T to help out with the loss of the MLE.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

CJ Miles is a good fit here, especially if Lou leaves.

Well, when I said we won't have the MLE, I didn't mean we won't have any cap room. If Lou and Hawes are gone and Brand is amnestied, we would still have MLE type room (or more) under the cap after signing McGee. So we could still go after a bench guy or starter at SF with that $$.
