Re: Trading the #2 pick - dicussion (merged)
If we went for the #2 for #6 and #11, two options I would consider:
a. Dion Waiters SG and PJ3 PF These two could start for us. Solid and safe picks with good upside. Seem articles where people think Waiters has the potential to be a superstar.
b. Drummond C and Lamb SG. These two are a bit more risky than option a., but I think the upside of each is higher. Higher risk but higher reward.
For those who were so jazzed about getting Davis paired with Biyombo to make a strong defensive interior with quality rebounding, I think Drummond and Biyombo would be dynamic on defense and the boards as well. But the lack of offense, at least for the first couple years, would be hard to accept.

scoop jackson suggest the bobcats should go after a trade for davis.
what do you guys think it would take to get him and would it be worth it?
I know this is an unpopular sentiment on this board, but I agree with Jackson. As others have noted we'd have to give up alot. This yr's 1, nxt yr's 1 and Kemba? I would do it. I would trade NO whatever they want for Davis. Make a statement. Get the Hornets name back. Davis and Biyombo and the purple and teal would bring the buzz back to this team. Overpay to bring in Jeremy Lin this summer (hey, we have the cap space) - regardless of where you rank him as a PG he adds incomparable value to your franchise (#2 in jersey sales behind DRose this yr despite playing very little), hire Jerry Sloan, and you won't miss next yr's pick (you'll still have POR's).
Hornets name
Anthony Davis
Jeremy Lin
Jerry Sloan
= anything better than you will get in this and nxt yr's drafts, imo
I know lots of people out there are going to hate my ideas, but I'm looking at franchise value

Re: Trading the #2 pick - dicussion (merged)
lin and davis would be good in the pick and roll under sloan. that much is certain.
that being said, i don't think we can trade our 1st round pick for 2013 since we technically owe that pick to chicago. we could only trade the portland pick, which doesnt have as much value.
if i was the hornets i probably wouldnt even think of trading that pick to the bobcats. i'm sure there are better offers from teams with more assets. but just for fun, if i was the hornets and i had to trade davis to the bobcats i would ask for
#2 pick in 2012
portland's pick in 2013
and biyombo

Re: Trading the #2 pick - dicussion (merged)
I disagree with trading the moon to get up one spot for Davis. We need too many players to trade away draft assets. I do not see Cho or MJ giving up all of our near-term future for one impact player.
Now, if Davis and his camp started talking smack (in private), refusing to participate in things for New Orleans, and trying to help engineer a trade to CLT, perhaps the price wouldn't be as damaging. I would offer some type of S&T of DJ and our #2 for the #1, which is the equivalent of 2 lottery picks. They wouldn't take that but at least you tried. Give up Kemba? While I doubt he will become a star he still needs time to develop into our starter, so it's too soon to deal him to move 1 spot up in the draft.
The new owner wants the sizzle and draw of Davis as much as anybody. The NBA fixed the deal...no way they give him up.

Hey Cats fans....Timberwolves faithful here.
What interests would you have in terms of a package built around Derrick Williams, the 2nd pick in last years draft? Outside of TT, assuming you guys play Bismack at the five, you don't really have a PF with potential. My original thought was Diop+2nd pick for Williams+Ellington. But I have no idea where your guys thought was with return value. Is a trade scenario like that completely outrageous in your eyes, or is there anything on Minnesota's roster that would make sense for you.
We have the 18th pick, but I honestly don't believe the 2nd pick is worth last years 2nd pick and a mid round first for this year.

Personally I would be strongly against such a trade. Some around here favor a Williams + 18 for 2 but I wouldn't take either. Williams is a bit to undersized to paired up Bismack in my opinion.
Similar question back. Would you take Hendo for Luke and 18? This would take place only if we drafted Beal.

No interest in Derrick Williams here, at all.
Period.

I disagree. I love Williams, would consider a trade at #2 but I'd want #18 and them to take Tyrus Thomas back.
Otherwise, just go with Beal. I'd much rather have Williams than Robinson though.

Looks like the Warriors are interested in acquiring a veteran small forward, but also have big time interest in Gilchrist as well. I wonder what kind of package they could offer that would of course include their 7th pick.

If he can not play the 3 effectively then no way. We cant have a 6'8'' power forward next to Biz. I would much rather role the dice on a prospect in this draft. We have seen that Williams will not be a franchise player, but these guys are still unknowns.

That's fair, but to answer your question, no. The main reason is Ricky might not be able to come back from injury till as late as December. With that in question, both Luke and JJ are actually very valuable to us, so most likely any deal involving one of them brings back another PG, even if he's a lesser talent. Also, and this is just my opinion....some of the wings available at 18 look like they could be as good or even better then Henderson. I'm a Harkless fan, but between White, Ross, Waiters...it's not really worth it for the Wolves.
Jaruff wrote:I disagree. I love Williams, would consider a trade at #2 but I'd want #18 and them to take Tyrus Thomas back.
I brought up a trade scenario in some Wolves chat about taking TT back...as his contract sucks. He could be a nice big man to rotate with Love and Pek. But the kid is kind of a tool and not worth his salary, so many on my boards hated the idea.
It was just a thought, but thanks for the responses!

Thanks. I didn't think you would but a someone recommended it in another thread and I wanted to a Wolves fan opinion on it.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you, because I'm not. But Williams is a PF....is he a bit short for the spot, but only a bit. Side by side with Love, he might be ousted by a whole inch. That's not the point though...the point is no one knows what Derrick Williams looks like as a starting PF. Last year gave no indication, other than he's not a three. I'm not a fan of Williams by any stretch, but from a skill standpoint, he has the same tools as Blake Griffin...except he can actually shoot. But Minnesota, nor the league will never know what Derrick Williams is as a player until he's not buried behind an AS PF averaging very, very heavy minutes.

i dont want to trade hendo. i think his value is greater than what he would get back in a trade, although i see the need if we take beal.
as for the twolves, they would be smart to make a trade like #17+? for someone like hendo. it doesnt have to be hendo, but the idea is the same. twolves dont really need to add more rookies do they? they need to add some vets to that team to get in the playoffs before love gets upset and asks for a trade. hendo would give them a major upgrade at shooting guard and a fantastic defensive backcourt. then trade derrick williams for a small forward and you have a squad. they should have traded that #2 pick last year when it had a lot more value. they didnt need to add another tweener forward when they already had beasley and randolph.

Good analysis,
The Wolves were in a tough spot last year, as I don't think anyone offered anything overwhelming for the pick. And DW wasn't a real threat to go higher than two because Kanter was such an unknown. I'm not very high on Henderson myself, but I get the idea. JJ Redick for instance would be nice to pair with Rubio. I get the feeling they will go hard after Iggy this year, and fall short. My only fear is they is if we get desperate and do something silly like deal for Pau or Gay...good guys to add, but their contracts suck ass.
Anyways, good luck this offseason....as someone who's been on the bottom, and for a while....you'll get better!

Re: Trading the #2 pick - dicussion (merged)
how much cap space do the wolves have this year? gotta upgrade those wings for sure. wolves havent had a decent sg since spree was around, at least it seems that way.
btw, i love pekovic. dude is a bear. i hope he can build on this past season and stay healthy. i picked him up in my dynasty league so he is mine until i decide to drop him or trade him.
as for hendo, i think you'd become a big fan if you watched him every night as a member of your fave team. he grows on you. he will never be an all-star but he is quality. tough, good defense, good size, doesn't back down from anyone, good fg%, has a nasty streak and not afraid to take big shots. he just needs to improve on his 3pt shot (he is money from 15-21 feet) and handles (so he can get more FT attempts).

I have to disagree with you here. There's no reason to think that Beal couldn't come off the bench as a super 6th man like Harden. We really don't have enough depth at any position to draft based on need over BPA.

Cho, make it happen, rob them.
Ha ha, that's the first thing I thought when I read that. "Maybe they'll strike out on those guys and get desperate for Maggette, they've already got 2 injury prone players, what's one more?"

If we draft MKG at 2, what do y'all think about trading Maggette to Toronto for Calderon? One expiring for a slightly less expiring? If we could weasel out their #8 pick for maybe Portland's pick, it's something I'd consider.

Don't know how having three decent point guards on the roster would work. Would like to try and get that 8th pick, though.
