So Timmy Resigns...

Post#1 » by ManuGino » Tue May 29, 2012 8:36 pm

Theoretically, We resign TD for around $10-12 Million.

Can we keep our role players? Re-sign Danny Green, Patty Mills, Boris Diaw, and still be able to Pony up on Gary Neal next year? What about the other guys who most likely are not coming back, i.e. Anderson and Blair. Any value for these two in the trade market?

I think Diaw and DG are the priorities, but how many of these guys are realistically on the roster next year?

TD makes 23.1 mil this year. Do you think he will accept that large a pay cut? If it comes down to it, I think the Spurs would give him a "career achievement" contract based on what he's meant to the franchise.

We can keep Diaw/DG if we can sign either to a short contract worth ~3 million per. If they can get more elsewhere I say let them walk.

Also, I thought at first you meant TD was tendering a resignation from something. Resign is just one of those words.

Green's staying for sure and Diaw probably is too.

I'd like to see Neal back too, he's a huge part of our bench but he could be easily replaced. As for Anderson and Mills I think both of them are gone unless they accept min deals or something close to the min. They're both easily replacable players.

be fkn stupid to let pieces walk for nothing and this team will end up like the 04 team again, not a good enough roster to go repeat...

green we still hold his rights and can match anything for him unless it goes above MLE....

diaw either accepts the MLE or move on, if he accepts the MLE, means we wont be signing lorbek

blair, andereson, mills are likely to be gone...if only bonner was also gone, we could fit green, diaw, neal into the budget....

then again if the spurs willing to spend and copt the tax for one season just to repeat, gino and jax contract expires next season...

I believe Patty was signed for 2 years, with the second being a $1 mill player option. Whether he's a Spur or not next season will probably come down to opportunities/contracts available elsewhere; I expect he could probably swing more than that 1 year/$1 mill based on those couple of games at the end of the regular season where he was pouring the points in (regardless of the quality/intent of the opposition), but my understanding is that a big part of going with the Spurs was the development opportunity that it offered to be part of the organization for a couple of seasons.

Mills also has a relationship with one of the spurs coaches, who is also the coach if the Australian boomers. I'd be surprised (unless it was a ton of money) that patty doesn't pick up that player option.
I think we'll be seeing him in black and silver again.

I highly doubt they give him a "career achievement" award by rewarding him with a lucrative contract.
He's older, slower and not as great as he used to be. Besides they know Timmy doesn't want to go anywhere and they will take advantage of that. I see them offering him 2-3 years at 12-13m. The spurs are pretty frugal when it comes to contracts.
