OT: the worst front offices?

talking corey brewer in the MKG thread led me to check his profile on bballref, which led me to the twolves draft history, which leads me here.

our front office has surely made some awful decisions but when compared with what the wolves have done over the past 17 years i cant understand how anyone could ever accuse the bobcats of being the worst run franchise (sorry wolves fans)

derrick williams?
wes johnson
jonny flynn
luke babbit
trevor booker
wayne ellinton
rashard mccants
corey brewer
ndubi edi
william avery
paul grant
pooh richardson
felton spencer
luc longley
christian laettner

there list of 1st round busts or 1st round picks that were underwhelming is astounding.

then check out the guys they picked, but traded in draft day deals
ty lawson traded for a future 1st (ended up as luke babbit)
brandon roy traded for randy foye
ray allen traded for stephon marbury (ok not awful, but in hindsight, they didnt get the better end)

the only two draft day moves they have made that were great were
1. drafted garnett
2. traded oj mayo for kevin love
3. drafted ricky rubio (and still managed to screw it up by also selected 2 other pgs in same draft)

not to mention the joe smith fiasco that cost them several #1 picks in the late 90s

what other franchises should be considered worse than us in terms of front office?

Clippers too. Aside from very recent picks I recall them being pretty terrible.

Same with Golden State. That is possibly one of the worst ever because even when they had a good pick they seemed to trade them immediately.

I think he meant Lazar Hayward. TWolves drafted Booker but traded him on draft night for Lazar Hayward and future considerations or something.

Hayward is now in OKC and hasn't done anything to my knowledge.

Yeah I'd have to say either the Wolves or Magic.

Toronto also has a great claim and Phoenix is the darkhorse imo.

You should start a thread on the general board, with clearer parameters... whether this is all-time (bad way of comparing), or a specific period for each FO (better way). Some franchises have had awesome and horrible FO's.

this same thread on the general board would immediately turn into a bash MJ thread, then the heat haters would jump in and talk about how riley sucks.

Make a poll, and make sure it only includes 10 options which are good choices for the worst FO's of all time (which clearly delineated periods and reasons). I did one in fact...

that was a pretty good thread you made there royale. i was mainly thinking about drafting when i was looking at the wolves earlier. didnt really even go down the road of trades and free agents. thomas definitely wins that in a landslide. what he did to the knicks was just amazing.

In terms of drafting, Phoenix is all over the place. They kept guys like Steve Nash and Stoudemire, but they traded Luol Deng (seventh pick in 04) for a 2nd and cash, Rondo was traded to Boston for a future late-1st pick (Rudy Fernandez). They sell second round picks quite often. Also they declined to give STAT a big deal and instead blew all that money giving Frye, Childress, Warrick big contracts.

to be fair, no one wants STATs contract today!
