I'd rather trade the pick for a proven player than take the risk on Waiters with a high pick. I must admit he was never on my radar though so I didn't bother to track him this year. Based on youtube clips alone he doesn't seem to pass the eye test - looks slow, moves awkwardly and not in a good way (e.g. Ginobili). Cue up the Moneyball scene.

Didn't make sense with us making the Rudy/Iggy trade rumors public yesterday Im guessing
BC decided to come out and shoot the rumor down to show hes serious about trading
the pick.

All he's said his that we didn't guarantee anything. We could have given him reason to believe that if he's available at our pick that he's gona be taken 8th. Dion Waiters never reported that he had a promise, it was simply an assumption due to him cancelling his workouts.

Why? The title says nothing about the Raptors

Obviously it wasn't going to be us. We're actively looking to trade out of this thing.

Please let it be someone ahead of us

Any chance that Philly have listened to the offers around the league for Iggy, including ours and decided they'll keep him and look to get a better fit at the 2 guard spot and are very high on the hometown kid Dion Waiters. Would Philly come back to BC with an idea like 15 + Turner for 8? I'm not saying whether that's a good deal or not but we need additional guard talent badly and while not a monumental leap forward I do think he has more upside than DeRozan.

That will almost certainly not fly with us.

Speak for your yourself

#8 for Turner & #15 is a heckuva deal for the Raptors

we don't even know if the Raps are shopping the pick or if we are after Gay/Iggy do we? I hate these rumours because most of the time they do not come to fruition..just wish it was Draft Day tomorrow lol can't handle all of these rumours

Because there is a report out there thats on the front page of Hoopshype that
says the Blazers, Raptors, and Suns are the main suspects. That pretty much eliminates
the Raps from the mystery.

BC publicly saying that he did not give a promise to him doesn't really mean anything..could be a smokescreen..obviously he is not going to say "ya I gave him a promise, we are drafting him with our 8th pick"

Lol at people taking the Colangelo quote at face value. First of all, what do you think he is going to say? "Yes, we promised to pick Dion Waiters"? Second, If anything I would say his phrasing ("we did not guarantee") actually hints at the fact that he did in fact make a promise. If he wanted to outright deny the claim, he would have simply said: "no, we did not make a promise to Dion Waiters." By making a promise you are not guaranteeing anything.

Turrible idea....if someone else drops, promises go out the window and then he's screwed.

I think it's Portland's second pick.

My thoughts too. I wouldn't take those words from BC as a confirmation of anything, as he'd likely be the first to say that nothing is 'guaranteed' in this business.

The fact that Colangelo even acknowledged it and quickly is whats interesting. Its the first
time I've ever heard a GM acknowledge a "promise" rumor especially early.

99% of the time GMs don't comment on promise rumors or any kind of draft rumors

It doesn't mean we won't draft him and trade the pick as Dagger described.
But this is very interesting, and I won't rule out we are drafting him.

As Dagger mention about his agent, who has a few high draft pick clients:
http://hoopshype.com/agents/rob_pelinka.htm

So his agent might know more about basketball talent with Eric Gordon, James Harden, and interestingly Andre Iguodala, Ed Davis, etc.

Considering Steve Kyler is from Hoopsworld I would imagine the quote is almost 100% made up.

Even if it's made up it makes no sense for us to guarantee anything.
