That is true, the real question is whether he got a promise from a team prior to or after the 8th pick.

maybe the trade for elite sf has fell apart?
and i dont get the idea about dont want too many rookies in the lineup view..waiters, lillard, beal, lamb could possibly be better than derozan already at sg...

I'm only happy with this if we somehow still get Lowry not involving our pick ^_^

What's funny is that I had lunch with Terrence Ross' agent yesterday. We talked about every possible scenario. Toronto never came up.

I dont think it makes sense for any of the teams around us to be making a promise to him.

Maybe Portland at 6

GS: No, Thompson
Us: Doubt it, everything is too undecided regarding our pick
-Philly via us: No, if that trade goes through philly has Holiday/Williams/Calderon/Turner in the backcourt
- Memphis via us: Maybe, but seems too OJ mayo like. I mean I guess if they want a cheaper potentially better version, but I also didnt think we were including the pick
Detroit: Too many guards
NOH: Looking to trade the 10th for cap relief
Portland: Maybe, but cancelling for 11? When he was rumoured at 8? Seems silly
Milwaukee: Already have two small scoring guards
Phoenix/Houston: Both legit possibilities, but kinda low to cancel workouts

Phoenix is not the team. We have held zero workouts. None! I highly doubt we would make an offer like that to a player we didnt spend any real time with.

From an outsiders perspective:

I think #6 to Portland is too high. At #6 Portland is hoping that Drummond is there, but if he's not, i could really see them drafting Lillard there. No way does Waiters get drafted before Lillard. Blazers could have promised him they would draft him with the #11, but with them having 2 picks, i think their 2nd pick would have to be dictated by who they took with their 1st. If they took Lillard at #6, do you still go after Waiters at #11 even though you have other needs?

It wasnt the Suns.

I think the Raptors gave Waiters a promise at #8. I believe they have a deal in place with Philly where Iggy will be going to Toronto in exchange for Waiters/Calderon/Davis. Philly will then amnesty Brand and rebuild with the #8 & #15.

Holiday/Waiters/Young/Davis/Vucevic

Once Toronto secures Iggy after the draft, they push hard to sign Nash as a FA (which has been reported). I really think with Toronto obtaining Iggy, that would really increase the chances of signing Nash. It would help push him over the hump.

Nash/DeRozan/Iggy/Bargnani/Valanciunas.

Thats my opinion/prediction at-least.

But why would philly trade their only small forward on their roster (though ET can play there) for 2 guards, when they already have 3 solid young guards. They will have a terribly inbalanced roster.

I just dont see Philly and Toronto as logical trade partners, unless the raps were to give up Bargs, which im against, as it involves increasing the age of the team for no huge benefit

Gotta be MJ acting on his gut feeling for #2 pick (revelation a la Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison)...

This just smells like a smokescreen by a top 10 lotto team so someone that was supposed to be initially drafted earlier in the draft falls.

They may draft a SF at #15?
While Waiters can play PG, Tuner maybe the starting SG?

With Ed Stefanski, we might know the bottom line of Philly.

Well Spurs didnt have Leonard to work out for them. So it doesnt say anything.

Sources say Waiters was immediately on a flight home to Philadelphia and has indeed shut down workouts... sources peg Phoenix as the spot

No one would screw a player over like that. Especially one run by one fo the most powerful agents in the business. If he's been told to cancel all workouts, it's because he has a promise that he's comfortable with.

I seriously doubt it's us, as we're currently looking to trade the pick.

Even if Phoenix was the one that promised, it doesn't make sense to cancel workouts. The rookie salary is dependant on where you're picked and the higher you go, the more $$$ is to be had. Why wouldn't Waiters do workouts to get a top-10 team to draft him?
#Raptors are 7-1. In 6 of the past 10 seasons, a team that has started a season 7-1 has gone on to win an NBA championship.

so two lottery picks and a huge expiring contact (and a VERY good back-up PG for the 76ers) for a player that did next to nothing for Phila in the playoffs??

alrighty then.

That's because JV is a far better prospect / player than Knight was. Waiters is likely the best of who will be available at #8

If i were a player... I would never take a 'promise" as meaning anything..When you are trying to sell yourself as a player.. cancelling all work outs is one of the dumbest things you could do.

I feel like im on dragons den as a dragon with the prospects.

And for that reason.... im out.

I can't see how this will apply to us. BC isn't out there making promises to anyone. Not his style. And no team would feel the need to trade all the way to the 8th pick to get him.

On another note, whatever team would promise him anything.....why wouldn't they still want to see a workout.
