Re: Its time for the Magic to rebuild completely
If D12 wants to be here great we explain our goal for 2013 and have him go recruit like wade did. I think Otis played his cards so close that he failed to let the organization know what the plan(if there was one) was. Im not saying players get to make personnel decisions but your star player should atleast be allowed to vioce opinions and concerns to management. Pat Riley definitely did this with wade ange with Peirce.
If D12 wants out.. i say send him to nyc( bring chandler and Amare) send jj and something to NO for Ariza, okafur and #10. This is the least painful rebuild scenario that keeps us competitive.

Except you need dominant offensive player. Sorry, Dwight and a "decent offensive team" around him is not even going to come close. Other big man who won titles leading there teams like Shaq, Hakeem and Duncan....offensively wipe the floor with Dwight.
A Dwight led Magic team has a chance of winning a title. Magic with no Dwight Howard has zero chance of winning a title and a 99% chance of being a perrenial 20-40 win team for the next decade with no shot of contending for a title. I can't believe people would actually think that this team could do better without Dwight. They sure would change their mind 2-3 years from now when the Magic continually suck ass.
I can't believe people actually think a Dwight led Magic team has a chance. We are far more likely to be out of the first round than ever get close to winning title. So basically we aren't contenders and we don't get a high pick. You sure would change your mind 2-3 years from now when the Magic lose in the first round yet again. Much better to completely rebuild and be in contention for the #1 pick.

Better to be in contention for a #1 pick easily.

Exactly. Not sure some understand the concept of complete rebuilding.

Someone may have already said this, but there are too many things in limbo before we can even think about blowing it up.
1. What if Jameer opts out? Takes 8.6 Million off the books
2. Waive JJ Redick? 6.1 off the books
3. Decide not to make an offer to Ryan Anderson
4. What if we can trade Duhon + Qrich's contract w/ the #19 Pick? or even better, Turkoglu??
That could potentially put us at 5 or 6 players under contract w/ 16 - 22 Million in cap space.

Exactly. And people prefer to give away the only player this team has that can put them into a championship position and risk being a losing team for the next 20 years. It is almost laughable that people panic that way as if Rebuilding and starting over is a for sure thing. Dwight being a winner is a for sure thing.

Uhm...what?
He's great but he's never been a game changer: he knows it and he's been looking to join some other "winners" Ã la Lebron since last season. Sooner or later we're gonna lose him, better start thinking about it now.

Please ask this question to Every Player, GM and owner of every team in the NBA. They know much more about basketball than you do and every single one of them will scream back that "Dwight is a Game Changer!"
By the way, you are a funny guy and that was a funny joke. Lol. Dwight is not a game changer, hahahaha. Good One.
Dwight is not leaving, face the facts.

He's been a magic player since 04 and we've made the finals once. All management's fault? I don't think so. He needs to play beside other stars to reach his potential since offensively he can be contained. Ask the Celtics, Hawks or Lakers for some advice.
If you think having Dwight alone will change this team's fortunes you're gonna be disappointed. Again.

I think he's a defensive game changer. I think most GMs will say that he's in the top 3 or so of players to build around.
But that's it - Dwight needs to be built around as he's not a player that will single handedly make a team an automatic contender. In my opinion he's not a player that can lead/will his team to that next level. He's not a player that can take over a game -- partly due the fact he's a C and therefore doesn't handle the ball.
If you look at recent history though, most championship teams have had one or more superstars and then a couple of stars, or other players that can also take over a game.
The exception is the Pistons, and possibly Dallas last year (1 superstar and no other "star" - to me Kidd (at this point in his career) and Terry are debateable in that role)
2000 Los Angeles Lakers 4–2 Indiana Pacers
2001 Los Angeles Lakers 4–1 Philadelphia 76ers
2002 Los Angeles Lakers 4–0 New Jersey Nets
2003 San Antonio Spurs 4–2 New Jersey Nets
2004 Los Angeles Lakers 1–4 Detroit Pistons
2005 San Antonio Spurs 4–3 Detroit Pistons
2006 Dallas Mavericks 2–4 Miami Heat
2007 San Antonio Spurs 4–0 Cleveland Cavaliers
2008 Los Angeles Lakers 2–4 Boston Celtics
2009 Los Angeles Lakers 4–1 Orlando Magic
2010 Los Angeles Lakers 4–3 Boston Celtics
2011 Dallas Mavericks 4–2 Miami Heat
You need a superstar player (Dwight) but you also need a well built team around him - hopefully our new GM will do this.

i might get flamed here
okafor+arisa+10th pick for expiering contract
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine
They waive jj and last year of hedo s contract is partially guaranteed
We get the 10th pick + solid vet defender
Trade D12+duhon For Rondo+pierce+21+22
Rondo,Nelson
Pierce,Jr,liggins
Ariza,earl,q
Bbd,okafor
okafor
+decide what we do with Ryan
+ pick 10+19+21+22 to either move up or get as a trading piece
this is a team i d like to watch, heart and hustle+ talent
All those trade r realistic and doable
*we can move JR in the boston trade or dump him to min for assets
** if nelson opt out we could ask for bradley in the boston trade

Re: Its time for the Magic to rebuild completely
I am split.
I find it very hard to let Dwight just go, since, while its never happened, there is the chance we just spike and finish it with him
However, I just feel like he wont be in it this year, unless we manage to make great moves (I am all for that ...)
The risk of keeping him and getting no where and being a year behind on rebuilding is terrible, but also there is the fact that your planning to rebuild vs taking a chance, I think it might be best to take the chance on doing well.

Dwight on any team in the NBA can improve that team by up to 20 wins. That is a game changer. Dwight with this team can win 55-60 games where any trade offer I have ever seen for Dwight doesn't even come close to 55 wins. He is a dominate presence that keeps defenses honest because you can't leave him one on one near the basket and no team can drive when he is defending the paint. Thus, Dwight is a game changer, believe it or not. A top 5 player is a game changer.
No organization in the history of sports wants to give away a top 5 player just so they can rebuild. Trust me, the Magic are going all out to keep Dwight and it will happen as much as you prefer to watch a losing team struggle with rebuilding for the next decade instead of enjoying a competitive contender.
Do you think Jerry Sloan, Karl Malone and John Stockton wanted to break up their team every time they lost. No, they fought tooth and nail til the end. They didn't win a Ship, but they have their legacy. I would rather root for the Magic with Dwight for the next decade than a heart and hustle team that fails to make the playoffs every other year for the next decade, hands down.
FYI. Heart and hustle teams make much less in revenue to owners than competitive teams with a superstar. This is a business, not a toy.

Ok, I apologize to people.
Let me re-phrase that. Sometimes, it is not enjoyable to watch a team wallow in mediocrity as they continually try to rebuild hoping for a superstar for up to decades at a time.
Well, there is a solution. By keeping Dwight Howard, the Magic has the best chance of success and a revenue generating product for years. Unfortunately, if Dwight Howard leaves, the odds are incredibly immense that the Magic are more likely to lose more games than win for quite a few years. Thus, a loss of revenue for the owners and animosity from fans.
I personally don't think the Magic Management, the players or Fans want anything to do with Dwight leaving. Personally, I think it is crazy talk to consider rebuilding as a viable option over keeping Dwight. But, that is just me. Sorry, but that is my personal opinion of this debate on a forum.

Unfortunately, that decision may not be up to the Magic organization. There's a possibility that D12 has already made up his mind to go elsewhere for a new start.
I would think that pretty much all here would prefer to build around D12. But if he doesn't want to re-sign, there's not much we could about it.

And, the Magic have the 3rd best winning percentage in the NBA in the past 5 years even though the supporting cast is average at best.

It is all good. I do feel that the Magic are trying to find the right people in order to accomodate Howard with an atmosphere and management that can build a contender. Because, you only live once and after all these years, I feel Devos has nothing to lose, but money!
I think Devos goes for broke. He is like 85 and I hope Dwight knows Devos has some of the deepest pockets in the NBA.
But, here is to hope!
