if you do your due diligence for the draft...and you really like a particular player...and don't want any other team to get their hands on him, one way is to make a promise and shut down his workouts. alot of teams won't draft someone that didn't work out for them. i don't see anything wrong with making a draft day promise. you don't want a team ahead of you to work him out and then start thinking about taking him.

If Drummond is available I think BC would take him. 7 footer, 280 pounds 3 BPG, 7'6 wingspan. Can't remember the last time the Raptors had someone of his size. Dude is bigger than Cousins and can do a between the legs dunk.

And can't hit a free throw to save his life. In the NBA, it's more important for a big man to make free throws than to make a between the legs dunk.

A #8, I definitely draft him over Lamb, but I'll definitely listen to offers for him.

Sam Amick
Regarding the alleged promise for Syracuse shooting guard Dion Waiters, a Raptors souce emphatically denies that they're the team that inspired him to cancel interviews and leave the combine. All eyes on Phoenix now. Toronto picks eighth, Suns 13th.

As an SU fan I am a Waiters fan, but I just can't see anybody in the top 9 giving him a promise.

Beal is a beast, his build is exactly like a Dwayne Wade.

Lillard definitely has that Johnny Flynn mojo going his way right now. workout wonder, impressing everyone and ducking nobody.

That is the only thing scaring me about him in this very thin PG draft.

Rivers on the other hand scored big with the measurements and I think its easier to know what you are getting at the nba level with him.

Hard not to see some Steph Curry in him. Probably moves up.

Why would he cancel workouts for a team picking 13th when a team picking 8th has interest in him?

He seems to be a Randy Foye-type of player; I would be shocked if BC promised him anything especially with all those Small Forwards talk.

it can only be a late lottery team: Philly and Milwaukee have too many lil guards already, Phoenix and Houston are good bets

Starting to think about retracting my statements about going for Rudy. With all of the buzz surrounding players not previously considered top 8 talents, the odds of a really good prospect falling to us is getting larger by the day.

Also, although I'm not completely sold on Lillard, he's starting to seem like a BC guy. Competitiveness and intelligence are extremely important in a player reaching is full potential. If he continues to impress in a group environment, I'll be happy with him at 8. Its about time we had our own homegrown PG prospect.

Beal's measurements. I guess I overlooked this. Look's like his size won't be an issue at all. Also, contrary to popular belief, it is possible to get "more explosive" with age/body development and training. His body is still maturing and he could stand to lose some body fat.

Pleeeease God let Beal drop to us.

I was thinking about this watching Rondo and even LeBron last night. Guys can train and train all they want, but you can teach size, length, etc. And just like Rondo has those long arms and big hands that allow him to do what he does, that's what you should look for to separate these players.

^ Exactly that's why Demar is struggling right now and the hype of a Dion Waiters is coming on strong. Of course someone can have a crazy physique and that doesn't mean he'll be a great ball player (Graham).

But if you find the perfect combination of skill and strength in a player who's 19-20 and has lots of room to grow, you take that guy. Beal, Waiters are great options for us IMO.

http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index ... links.html

• ESPN.com's Chad Ford reported Thursday that buzz was circulating regarding a draft promise reportedly made to Syracuse guard Dion Waiters, naming the Blazers, Raptors and Suns as the suspects. The Oregonian's Jason Quick quickly followed up, saying Blazers director of college scouting Chad Buchanan said a few weeks ago he "never" gives players a promise. Raptors GM Brian Colangelo has since told Ford no promise was made to Waiters. By process of elimination, that would leave Phoenix.

^ Yup, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Suns want to screw Portland and Toronto who are looking for a guard and might take Waiters.

This makes it harder for them to chose Waiters when he is available at 6 and 8 because he didnt work out for them and the teams never interviewed him.

I hope BC F*** them and takes him.

There is no way Waiters and his agent agree to the 13th pick promise, when he has such interest from the range of 6 to 13...he had nothing to lose by working out if it was the 13th pick because he knows already he is not getting passed 13th anyway so if he knew and Im sure he did that he has a possibility of going higher than y cancel all your workouts? Its either a really stupid move but I don't think the agent that represents Kobe and other high profile players allows this to happen unless its a high draft pick. I truly believe its the raptors it makes a lot of sense, Y in the hell would BC keep going out of his way to squash these rumors, y isn't Portland going out of their way or Phoenix. I believe the promise was made by us, ya maybe Waiters isn't Colangelo's kind of guy but maybe thats why he goes for this maybe Waiters is a Casey kind of player....

If he cancelled his other workouts it doesn't seem like he's very interested in playing for Toronto. I still doubt anyone in their right mind would settle for Phoenix. Phoenix.

Return to Toronto Raptors
