These comments always puzzle me. Its one thing when you're looking at a Lebron James getting drafted, or even Davis this year - its pretty clear they're a sure thing. But Jeremy Lamb? We really have no idea how this kid will perform. If we were in an era where everyone stayed 3-4 years, perhaps we'd have a better idea. But we don't. We honestly don't have a clue. At some level its like placing bets at the Kentucky Derby. Some of these guys look great, but until the race (NBA) comes, we just don't know.
That said, the more I see, hear and read about Thomas Robinson, the more I'm inclined to support him for our pick, even though this isn't our area of need. I'm having a hard time thinking he does poorly in the NBA. I'm pretty confident he'd be a clear starter, perhaps bordering on All-star. I don't see any problem with him developing a mid-range shot, which means he rawks at the pick and roll.
Regarding Beal, I'm just not worried about him being an inch shorter. That isn't the difference that makes the difference. I will worry if he's a subpar athlete. But if he comes out OK there, I'll be OK with this pick as well.
MKG is the difficult one. At one level, its possible to see him as an absolute stud all-star in 3-4 years from now. He does look special on the court - he does have that "it" factor that stars have. My fear is if his confidence goes down in the NBA, his game will fold. He really needs to get his shot NBA ready - this might take a few years. But even here, I think I'm OK with this selection.
I still believe Charlotte stays at the #2 (they need to be selling hope, not filling more holes with lower draft picks), and picks either MKG or Robinson. My money's on MKG, because if any team needs someone to prompt them toward a winning culture, its Charlotte. That makes MKG a money pick.
Between Robinson and Beal, I'm torn, but if I'm being honest with myself, I'm torn more based on our needs vice their skill levels.
