We offer Josh Smith (and Zaza) to ORL for Dwight Howard.

They can tell their fans that they're using Smith to entice DH to sign with them when he becomes a FA - they'll have lots of money (only $15,412,850 committed) to sign Smith and DH.
We get one year of superior basketball - AND a chance to re-sign Howard - AND one year of great ticket sales to attract a new owner.

I still think a Gasol deal makes sense for one of your PFs. Lakers would want to cut salary for 2012-2013 by taking on Zaza and then having that payment come off their cap, while Atlanta gets a guy who is much better as a C.

Counting his time in the playoffs with MEM, Gasol has been rancid in postseason play.

Instead of our young, talented PFs, a Joe Johnson for Gasol trade makes more sense, financially and on the court. LA re-signs Odom for PF, replaces Artest with Joe at SF and ... presto! ... the Lakers are athletic and much more talented. Bynum doesn't have to share the post, Odom can chase those athletic PFs who are running Gasol ragged and Joe's not only a great shooter and defender but he's also a great passer.

Atlanta would get a slightly better PF since I don't see Gasol as being a center. He is a PF who has jsut recently begun to play a lot more physically, but at his age it isn't a long-term thing.

Financially it isn't a good deal for the hawks. JJ and Gasol's contracts would greatly hurt the Hawks with any flexibility. They could only resign folks, not be a major player in the free agent market.

The cost of of the pf and our only true center creates a hole that Atlanta then has to fill. Say what you may about Zaza, but he is tough and is a fairly decent backup.

I do think a JJ for Gasol deal might be better for the Hawks (the Lakers likely decline for obvious reasons). Atlanta then could dangle Smith or Horford for a sg if they want to or try and sign someone. Could always start a Smith/Horford/Gasol 3-4-5.

Trust me he's a C. He needs someone tough and rugged next to him but he's no PF. Think finesse C of the Sacramento Kings' era teams.

I'd much rather see it involve Joe Johnson and Josh Smith. I think it makes the most sense for our organization. Horford is already locked up to a contract that I consider reasonable, but Josh Smith will most likely be looking at a max deal, and I prefer to not go that route.

Gasol is still very much one of the better bigs in the NBA and he pretty much won LA one championship when Kobe was playing like ass the entire time(yet won the MVP for some reason).

This year, Mike Brown moved him to the top of the key, took him out of the post and now people are blaming him for not...I guess...getting offensive rebounds off Kobe's bricks and scoring more points.

If LA was dumb enough to trade Gasol for Johnson, I would jump all over that. If it were for Smith, I would want more back simply because we would have Joe and Gasol's contracts.

Josh Smith for Washington's #3 pick

We get to draft Drummond or MKD and Washington gets another valuable piece next to Nene and Wall, Washington has enough young pieces and Smoove next to Wall would be nasty, also I think Smith would resign with Washington if all goes well as he'll be playing on a team who has potential and who wants to win

I'd do something like,

Lewis+Singleton+pick3 for Johnson+Smith+pick23

Looking at lotta, kings at 5, blazers at 6, and raptors at 8 probably wiling to deal. Jsmith doesnt make ense on blazers. I bet we could get 8th pick, sullinger or zeller most likely...

Thoughts...
Jsmith for tyreke Evans (no picks)
Johnson for pau gasol

Makes a lot of sense to me, lemme know what you all think. I really feel evans available for smith.

Hawks get:

Kevin Martin
Samuel Dalembert
Josh McRoberts
Steve Blake

Lakers get:

Joe Johnson
Josh Smith

Rockets get:

Pau Gasol

Hawks would be at $55 million with 8 players under contract which is huge improvement over $60 million with 6 under contract. After the 2 draft picks they would be at about $57 million with 10 under contract. So we could use the mid-level exception on a quality player. Then add to reserves.

Teague/Steve Blake/Draft(PG)2nd rd Machado or Tu Holloway
Kevin Martin/Willie Green
Marvin/Draft(SF)1stRd
Al/Ivan/McRoberts
Dalembert/Zaza/Mahinimi,Kaman,Kwame,Asik, Spencer Hawes, or Jordan Hill for the mid-level exception

Way under luxury tax we would be at about $65 million with a solid team that could get the 7th or 8th seed in the east.

The following year we would be at 23.5 million with 3 players under contract that means we could get Dwight and bring Josh back.

I really believe we should move Horford for a center and keep Smith. because I feel we could get back a better player with Horford even though Smith effects the game more than Horford does. on both ends. but i see the Hawks fans are split about 50/50 on which one we should move. I have posted Smith trade Ideas and Horford trade ideas.... way more Horford however. so here is a Josh trade lets see what you all think

Washington out: 2012 1st round pick 3rd over all
in: 2012 1st round picks 5th and 23rd over all.

Sacramento out: 5th over all pick, Tyreke Evans, and Salmons
in: Josh Smith
Atlanta out: Josh Smith and 23 overall pick
in: Tyreke Evans, Salmons, and 3rd over all pick 2012 draft

Washington gets two firsts in a good draft by only moving down two. they already have a nice little core with John Wall, Nene with the 5th pick they get MKD, Harrison Barnes, or Beal one of them will be there and with the 23rd pick they take BPA Terrence Jones or Andrw Nicholson hopefully one of them will be there or take Fab Melo. and with their 2nd round pick they could get a guy like Tony Wroten( which I believe is a first round talent) if you dont get Beal. this would allow them to push Jordan Crawford to the bench in a six man roll
if you get Beal then take another big with that 2nd round pick maybe Drew Gordon .

Wall/ Crawford
Beal/ Crawford
Singleton/ Lewis
Nene or Blacthe
Seraphin or Nene/ Fab Melo
I was trying to include Blatche in the trade moving him to Atlanta but dam that contract is ugly. maybe if the wiz took back Marvin Williams.

Sacto gets Josh Smith to run with Cousins and Thompson... I feel that would be some serious intimidation in the paint on the defensive end. they are also getting rid of the horrendous contract of Salmons.

Isaiah/ Fredette
Marcus Thornton
Smith / Outlaw
Thompson/ Hayes
Cousins/ Hayes

Atlanta gets a running mate for JJ since I know their is no way in Hell they will be able to move that contract. JJ could be the number two option or even if he is the number one the Hawks would have a legitmate 2nd option. plus they get a pretty savvy scorer coming off the bench in Salmons. Not to mention with the 3rd pick over all they should be able to land Drummond.

Teague/ Pargo
Evans/ Salmons
JJ/ Salmons
Horford/Ivan
Drummond/ Zaza

I doubt very seriously that either one of those will be there at 10.... the only guys I would want in this draft to replace Smoove would be Barnes, Drummond, Lamb or maybe Perry Jones. Perry Jones should be there at 10. would love to have Drummond or Barnes though.... in that order.

but we could draft Perry Jones at ten and maybe Melo at 23. I would love to get a few undrafted rookies (seniors) to be invited to camp.... the one I am most like is Kyle O'Quinn out of Norfolk State.

Something a bit crazy nvolving ATL/ CHA/ DET and UTA

UTA
incoming:
Marvin, T. Thomas and Zaza
outgoing:
Jefferson to DET, Raja Bell and #47 to CHA

DET:
incoming:
Jefferson from UTA + CHA #2
outgoing:
Monroe, Gordon and #9 to ATL

CHA:
incoming:
Joe Johnson, ATL #43, UTA #47 and Raja Bell
outgoing:
Magette to ATL, T. Thomas to UTA, #2 to DET

ATL:[b]
incoming:
Gordon. Monroe, #9 from DET
outgoing:
JJ and #43 to CHA, Marvin and Zaza to UTA

ATL turns around and signs and trades Hinrich (needed as Nash departs) and #23 and future second for Warrick and #13.
Trades J. Smith to GS for #7 and R,Jefferson.
Finally, ATL trades Gordon for Walton (amnesty) and Gibson to the Cavs. Trades Warrick to the Cavs for a furure 2nd.
Selects Ross at #7, Perry at #9 and Moultrie at #13.
Resigns FA I.Johnson. Collins, Pargo and Green. Signs FA R. Allen (1.5 M)

JT- Pargo (FA)- [b]Gibson

Ross (#7)- Allen (FA)- Green (FA)
Perry (#9)- Jefferson- Magette- Ross
Horford- Moultrie (#13)- I. Johnson (FA)
Monroe- Collins (FA)- Horford

Athletic and long starting 5, experience coming off the bench especialy Allen brought in to mentor Ross, Jefferson for Perry while Al can do the same with Moultrie.
4 potential C with Monroe- Horford- Moultrie and Collins.
Thoughts? ATL could amenty either Jefferson or Maggette in place of Walton for extra savings or if not trade them for multiple pieces to do separate trades later for 2nd picks e.g Childress and Telfair. In that case, we would have to trade Chil and the future 2nd from the Cavs for cap releif only!...
