not many long term upgrades, but plenty of guys i'd prefer to see provide a different voice at PG for a season. preserving cap space for 2013 should still be our primary focus, even if that means overpaying someone for 1 season.

i don't think Nelson has it any more. i think the small spark that would come out during the playoffs has faded away. his body just can't keep it up anymore. besides that, he's never been a great facilitator, so it's not like he has that aspect to fall back on.

this team is in desperate need of some addition by subtraction, and Jameer, Turk and JRich are the primary candidates on that front. the guys who are held in the esteem of players worthy of 'star status' who don't have the game to back it up.

That's how I see it. I'm not sure I'd break the bank for any of the guys on that list and some guys are going to be looking for long term deals or more money. I'd be very frugal this offseason in terms of signings.

Not yet. I think on the little news feed on the bottom of ESPN it said that Sloan is the favorite right now. We still have a chance. We just have to hurry.

IMO the Bobcats franchise needs a vet like Sloan as coach.

What do you want us to do with that cap space? I have my own thoughts, but I'm curious to hear yours.

Do you think we could have already contacted someone like Mike Malone behind closed doors? I think its a very real possibility that we could have a solid verbal but we're waiting to get a GM in place for the draft.

Not sure if it was posted
OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Orlando Magic have narrowed their search for a new general manager to three finalists and haven't ruled out making two hires as they revamp their front office after the departure of GM Otis Smith and coach Stan Van Gundy, multiple league sources told CBSSports.com Tuesday.

Two of the finalists, Spurs executive Dennis Lindsey and Thunder executive Rob Hennigan, are scheduled to meet with members of the DeVos family in Grand Rapids, Mich., in the next couple of days, one of the sources said. The other finalist, former Hornets GM Jeff Bower, has not been scheduled to meet with owner Rich DeVos and other family members yet, but his visit is expected to follow. Orlando is expected to wrap up its GM search by late this week or possibly early-to-mid next week.

The reason for the order of the meetings wasn't clear, but two additional people briefed on the process came away with the impression that the team plans to make two hires -- a president and a GM or a GM and an assistant. Hennigan is a rising star with the Thunder, who will face the Heat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night, but is only 30 years old.

The Magic, however, may need to decide among these three finalists for the top job, as it is unlikely that they'd be able to hire two of them. Lindsey may well back out and decide to stay in San Antonio, as he has done on several occasions in the past. In any event, Lindsey almost certainly wouldn't leave the Spurs for a No. 2 job. Despite his inexperience, Hennigan is highly regarded around the league and also would be unlikely to leave the conference champion Thunder for anything less than complete control. The search for the second hire could very well be conducted by the new GM from another field of candidates.

The idea of hiring a tandem of executives to jump-start the Magic's rebuilding plan was first broached with regard to Pacers executive Kevin Pritchard and his former right-hand man from Portland, Tom Penn. But Pritchard pulled his name from consideration when Pacers president Larry Bird informed Pritchard that he wanted to promote him to GM last week.

As for a pie-in-the-sky option, the Magic have not asked the Celtics' permission to speak with Doc Rivers about a role that would include coaching and final say on personnel decisions as the team president, another person with knowledge of the team's plans said. But while the Magic haven't ruled Rivers out completely, there has been no indication that Rivers -- who signed a lucrative five-year extension last May -- wants to leave Boston or, more important, that the Celtics would let him go.

Gotta see the big picture and i'm willing to sacrifice 1 season for that opportunity of building a GREAT team with some very good players. DWade went through 2 seasons of SUCK go get to BACK-TO-BACK finals appearances. Our new GM gotta sell Dwight on patience and make him understand we'll build a better team than the HEAT if he allows us to.

If Jameer opts out, deuces. Offer him 1 year deal, and if he declines it, keep it moving. Best case scenario is he opts in.

how about neither options and draft a pg like teague. his rookie contract won't restrict our 2013 capspace

The plan should be to unload as many contracts as possible to clear up money for the summer of 2013. Then, develop as much youth as possible this year. Team could still be a top 4 seed if well coached with BBD, Dwight, Ryno, Liggins and JJ getting more burn.

Hire Lindsey as POB and Hennigan as GM, Jeff Bower as towel boy.

Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns – $11.7 million – Unrestricted
Jason Kidd, Dallas Mavericks – $8.6 million – Unrestricted
Andre Miller, Denver Nuggets – $7.8 million – Unrestricted
Chauncey Billups, L.A. Clippers – $2.0 million – Unrestricted

In my opinion those are the players that can make the Magic a better team, the problem is recruiting them. If I remember correctly Kidd said he wanted to be Deron Williams backup(either Dallas or Nets) Andre Miller and Chauncey Billups are interested in resigning with the teams they finished the season. That leaves Steve Nash as the number one target, not only will he give Howard excellent passes, he will give all of our shooters open looks.
Smart / Micic / D. Wright
Wiggins / Exum / J. Adams
Parker / K. Anderson / Mcdermott
Randle / Vonleh / Stokes
Embiid / Nurkic/ Tavares

not worth it when we can draft a pg that could be better/cheaper than them at their age

miller and kidd are not starters anymore, dooling is not a very good backup at this point, we cant keep getting older, and we cannot not waste cap space for the next couple years on players like that

Chauncy wants to finish what he started with the Clippers. Would love Miller, but we can't tie up money for next summer...

The report says Dwight is still in California rehabbing his back. Camp was scheduled for July 1-2.

Dwight Howard's annual basketball summer day camp at UCF for boys and girls has been postponed, and it's unclear when, or if, it will be rescheduled.

People close to Howard say that Howard continues to rehabilitate his back in Southern California from April 20 surgery to repair a herniated disk. Howard was scheduled to be on site the entire camp.

But the postponement of the camp will raise speculation that Howard will seek a trade from the Orlando Magic. Howard is under contract with the Magic through the 2012-13 season.

The camp originally was scheduled for July 1-2 with a morning session for kids ages 7-11 and an afternoon session for kids ages 12-18.

An official at ProCamps Worldwide, the company that runs the annual event, said company officials hope to reschedule the camp and that families who had paid the $199 fee have been notified.
