Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXVI: Offseason Edition
Meer is waiting to have a talk with our new GM. It's hard for players to make decisions when there's a big hole in the organization; no GM with a vision to structure the team and no coach to determine if/how you'll be used. Tough spot for him to be in.
Quick KG comment: As I was strolling through the Celtics' board, seems like KG will play another year in Bos if they retool and will ONLY play for Doc. Pipe dream, but if we could actually get Doc here, i really feel KG would follow (as long as we're contenders).

“Who doesn’t want a long-term deal?” Nelson said. “Everybody wants that security.”
This is the decision Nelson will likely need to make by the end of business Friday. Does he opt-in for one final year where the Magic pay him the hefty sum of nearly $8 million? Or does he opt-out for a longer deal somewhere else? Or another possibility is that he could opt-out and the Magic could restructure his deal to give him less money next year but more years on his contract.
“I love the Magic organization,” Nelson said, “… but at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for me and my family.”
Stay tuned and check OrlandoSentinel.com for this developing story.
Ok....things are looking up....half-kidding

I don't expect a hire today, or this weekend. Probably early to mid week next week. If that is the case, that would be 5 weeks to hire a GM after Otis left and 7 weeks since the season ended. Alex Martins and co. are going way too slow.

Jameer Nelson did not mince words when I asked him what will likely be the major factor on whether he comes back as the Orlando Magic’s point guard?
“I love the Magic organization,” Nelson said, “… but at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for me and my family.”
Because one more year of salary at $8 Million is too risky.
Yes, yes, I know, he wants long term security yada yada yada...but please, I hate when these players make it sound like without a long-term deal he'd be living under an I-4 overpass.

C'mon man, he didn't say anything like that. It's not like when Sprewell said "I got to feed my family." Anyone with a job will consider what makes the most money for his family and provides them a comfortable life for the long term. He's looking for a long term deal and he doesn't want to opt in and get traded to a place he or his family isn't going to like to live in. He's not insinuating that he can't live off of $8 million or even $1 million. He's just doing what every professional should do.

Really interesting thing I just thought of....if Jameer opts out, Chris Duhon is the only point guard on the books for us in the 2012-2013 season. I don't think we should draft a point guard unless it's Kendall Marshall and I don't think he drops to us, which means either we a.) start Chris Duhon or b.) sign a point guard.

Don't remind us.
Not changing this Sig until the Orlando Magic win a championship (Technically Started 1-30-08)

If Duhon starts at PG then that means our new GM and coach sucks.

Screw Kendall Marshall if Jameer opts out Draft a SF because Turk is far gone.....Sign Andre Miller if the price is right.....Isn't Marshall compared to Calderon and Miller anyway?....don't have time to see if Marshall will develop with the Dwight thing hanging in the balance....instant gratification....just sign Miller and pick up a PG with that second round pick

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXVI: Offseason Edition
Do you guys see any chance that the Nets can put together a package that Orlando accepts for Dwight?
Seems like, if you decide to deal Dwight (I'm far from convinced he's leaving) that he'll go to the Lakers for Bynum. Lopez, Brooks, Morrow, Wallace ... doesn't seem like enough there to make a deal but curious what you guys feel on how this will come together in the coming days and weeks.

I believe Wallace has decided to opt out so no there. I honestly think they would take the Houston rental for capspace young talent and draft picks if it happens before the draft.

The Nets ship sailed as soon as they didn't receive their pick, no chance he goes there now.
