Which is Best Deal?

Post#1 » by JMAC3 » Thu Jun 14, 2012 5:31 pm

A trade scenario involving the number 2 pick that still brings us back a lottery pick.

1. New Orleans

Charlotte Trades: #2, Kemba, Maggette, and Diop
Hornets Trade: # 1, Ariza, Okafor

Why for Hornets: They still get a really good player @ 2 and keep the # 10 pick. They ditch the contracts of Ariza and Okafor for expiring contracts of Maggette and Diop. They also land a point guard in Kemba. I think this is actually too good of a Deal for the Hornets, but it will take a ton to get them to give up the Unibrow.

3. Washington

Charlotte Trades: #2
Washington Trades: #3 and #32

4. Cleveland

Charlotte Trades: #2
Cleveland Trades #4, #24

5. Sacramento

Charlotte Trades: #2, Corey Maggette
Sacramento Trades: #5, Tyreke Evans, Francisco Garcia

Why for Kings: They can move up and land the prospect of their choosing. They gain an expiring contract in Maggette instead of having to pay Garcia 6 million over next two seasons. They do not see Evans a big part of future so they dump his contract while moving up in draft to land a better fit.

6. Portland

Charlotte Trades: #2 pick, Kemba Walker
Portland Trades: #6, #11, #40

Why for Portland: They are able to grab Drummond at #2 while still pairing him with Kemba Walker. This seems better then Lillard and whoever they grab at #11.

Why for Charlotte: They resign DJ Augustin, Then at #6 they grab whoever falls out of Drummond, MKG, Beal, Barnes, or Robinson. At 11 they take BPA opposite of who they take at #6. They also pick up another second rounder who they could just sell to help pay for some of DJ Contract.

7. Golden State

Charlotte Trades: #2, Kemba
Warriors Trade: #7, Curry

Why for Golden State: They pick up #2 so they can grab MKG to plug in at 3. They pick up a healthy point guard in Kemba instead of hoping Curry comes back.

Why for Charlotte: They grab a hopeful superstar in Curry if he can get healthy and then hopefully get whoever falls out of Barnes, Beal, or Drummond and if not grab Lamb, Rivers or Leonard

8. Toronto

Charlotte Trades: #2, Tyrus Thomas
Toronto Trades: #8, Andrea Bargnani

Why for Toronto: They set things up better for when JV comes over this season by ridding themselves of Bargnani who does mesh well with him and set themselves up for grabbing either Drummond, Robinson, or MKG to fill the void at SF.

Why for Charlotte: They get rid of awful Tyrus Thomas deal. Pick up Bargs who will match well with Biz and still net themselves the number 8 pick who they can grab BPA out of Lamb, Waiters, Rivers or PJ3.

9. Detroit

Charlotte Trades: #2
Detroit Trades: #9 and next years first rounder unprotected

Why for Detroit: They can trade up and land perfect compliment to Monroe in Drummond over Henson which is worth giving up an extra first rounder with the talent difference.

Why for Charlotte: They land an extra first rounder in next season draft for moving down 7 spots not too bad. At 9 they can grab BPA out of Leonard, PJ3, Lamb, Rivers, Waiters.

14. Houston

Charlotte Trades: #2 and Tyrus Thomas
Houston Trades: #14, #16, Kyle lowry, and Marcus Morris

Why for Houston: Throw everything they have after the #2 pick to draft Andre Drummond and solve the center position. They resign Dragic to play the point and Morris was in DLeague all season. They are a team full of mediocre players and take a chance to land a true star in Drummond.

Why for Charlotte: Charlotte lands an upgrade at Point Guard. A tweener in Marcus Morris and two flyers at 14 and 16. While still getting rid of Thomas' contract.

Edit: Added these two options... Once the poll has gone longer I can seperate these two if need be.

Memphis

Memphis Trades: Rudy Gay and #25
Charlotte Trades: #2, Tyrus Thomas and Desagna Diop

Minnesota

Minnesota Trades: Derrick Williams, Martell Webster and #25
Charlotte Trades: #2 and Tyrus Thomas

I would suggest many of these scenarios would never become a real offer, but they are well designed relative to consideration, so kudos JMAC.

Having said that, I voted for dealing with Cleveland. I believe it is the most likely scenario that does not involve additional players. At some point the Cav's will need to decide if they want a particular player badly enough (Beal) to move ahead of the Wiz to get him. Giving up the 24th pick is not easy, but if they would take one of our players back in return (ideally Thomas) it would be sheer gravy for us. Not sure they'd want to go that far but they do need a lot of players. At 4 we get to pick one of the best players remaining between Robinson, Drummond, Barnes or MKG.

You did leave off the suggested option (no rumor) that was made regarding the Timberwolves; potential of dealing #2 for Derrick Williams & #18. Again, I'm not sure if Minny would consider that enough compensation, although some suggest sending Tyrus in the deal (which is better for us...better for them??). That would be something I'd seriously consider.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Most def not the portland deal, so you think it'd be a good idea to trade the 9th pick in last years draft & 2nd pick in this years draft for 6 and 11? wtf

How about #2 and Diop to the Bulls for Deng and # 29?

Deng is better than anybody at #2 and could be a #1 option on a lot of teams, I meant to add Maggs to the deal as well.

So maybe Deng, Asik or Gibson and # 29 for 2, Maggs, and Diop

Deng is injury prone and is mediocre. Just draft Barnes if you want a player who plays like him somewhat

**** no, that is absolute **** for us. That's not quite as bad as trading #2 for Gay, but it's damn close. Deng just got a ton of hype this year because he played a little better than he normally does, and because he plays for the Bulls. Deng is an above average starting SF, but not that far above. Barely top 10.

Yeah the Bulls are not a good trading partner for us and the #2. They don't have any assets available, the good stuff they have they want to keep and we don't want their trash.

Unless they go completely nuts and trade us Rose, then we're probably not pulling off any kind of big trade with them.

Deng is an All Star and a top SF in the league. He was #2 behind LeBron coming out of High School he didn't forget how to play, we'd be lucky to have him!

Josh Selby was #1 in his class (ahead of Kyrie) coming out of high school he didn't forget how to play, we'd be lucky to have him!

I see what you did there but Rivals is the worst of the services and everyone knew he was not the #2 player. Deng was the consenus #2 and when was Selby an All Star?

Deng sucks(in the context hes not worth the #2 pick in any draft ever), Mo Williams was an all-star too

I am interested in the GS deal, but the Cleveland deal is probably the best.

I like the Detroit option with the future unprotected 1st as well. Two draft picks next year in the lotto could be a big deal
