Brendon Haywood – I wouldn’t be surprised to see him amnestied. If Minnesota does indeed decide to keep Pekovic and acquire Haywood, Minnesota would possess one of the best front courts in the NBA with just enough cap space to pursue another free agent.
Shawn Marion – Dallas can only amnesty one (pretty sure they’d rather amnesty Haywood first). Marion’s 34 years old, but his skillset would be a good fit with Rubio. He’s not a great shooter, so Minnesota could make finding one a priority in the draft or free agency.
Ben Gordon – He doesn’t strike me as being the most loyal player in the NBA, but he’s still a reliable scorer/shooter. A little snag is that Minnesota already has some minutes invested in Rubio, Ridnour, Barea, Lee, and Johnson with a chance of adding a guard in Schved.
Elton Brand - He’s fully capable of playing alongside Pekovic and Love. It’s a low risk move since he’s a one year rental. Love plays 39 mpg (2nd in the NBA), so he should be able to reduce the team’s reliance on Love.

I think Brand would be a great backup 4/5.

I'd even be fine trading for Marion. Yes Vindicator, another guy who can't shoot

it's not about trades. These players can be picked with capspace if the get amnestied.

Yes, but if Haywood gets amnestied, I'd still be fine trading for Marion.

Re: 2012 amnesty candidates
I'd LOVE to sign Brand. He's still somewhat productive, wouldn't cost the world and makes a great backup to both Love and Pek. Plus, he seems to be an ideal veteran leader kind of guy.
Haywood...meh. Marion still managed to have a good season, so I'd be interested. Gordon would be ok at 4-5 mil, if he could get back to how he was in Chicago.
Looking at the article, I'd probably also be interested in John Salmons or Rashard Lewis if they got amnestied. And, I know, Lewis looks like crap lately, but maybe actually playing on a team going somewhere might invigorate him (and a coach like Adelman might help, considering he just had Wittless and Screamin' Stan). If not, you're not paying him much, so send him on his way.

I think you have the power to cut, don't even have to amnesty.

Doubt Marion gets amnestied. Dude is still a defensive beast.

I don't know if it'll happen, but if Okafor gets amnestied, we should go after him.
Anyone know how it works if a guy like Joe Johnson gets amnestied? Say we bid $8 million and won, do we pay him $8 mil per year till the end of his contract while Atlanta eats the rest?

I doubt New Orleans would amnesty Okafor. They don't have to worry about any luxury tax since they are far under the cap, Kaman may not return, and they'd really be paying a lot of money for Okafor not to play.
It's a silent auction. One bid per player. If a player is amnestied & under contract for 3 years, he will play 3 years for his new team. If they bid 8 million for a player with 2 years remaining, the new team pays 8 million overall (not 16). The player's old team pays the difference, but it no longer counts against their cap.
