I know someone here doesn't remember how amazing Grant Hill was back in the day. Surefire HOFer till his ankle injuries.
Anyway, Harkless is one of those "great prototypical physical tools, lacking skillset" type players. There's a ton of them out there, some make it, some don't. I think he has a good chance, because he does show the basketball/timing instincts good players need. But frankly so many similar players bust that I wouldn't put any money on it. He really should have stayed at St. John's for another two years.

Re: Moe Harkless
Unfortunately DraftExpress doesn't have a report on him and NBAdraft does. They say he has a quick first step with comfortable handles and footwork for his size, whatever that means. Just off that basis alone it sounds like there's potential for him to be able to create his own shot. Of course it's not there (as the report says) but there's grounds for it, although rarely do I trust NBAdraft's word on things. Would anyone who has watched him play like to chime on in this?
Supposedly the Raptors are looking into him and I can see why they would be. Although they have an all right drafting history they do seem to find talent in the oddest places. Like with James Johnson in 2009, a lot of us were mocking the interest we were showing him, and 2 years later we trade for him and he turns out to be our most naturally talented player. If he was a lot younger he may have been a fixture in our future, but alas he's 25 and a boatload of things still needing work. Moe Harkless is only 19 though, and although many question Colangelo's skills as a GM, unless it's Hedo Turkoglu I've never doubted his ability to see talent.
Also how is his attitude, passion for the game, etc?

Ok gotcha. Moe Harkless will be one of the GOAT.
And Paul George has a ton of upside left... Hes just tapping into his potential.

Re: Moe Harkless
harkless is all about project-ability right now. he's got prototype size and tools, but how his skills develop is anyone's guess.
he plays hard on both ends, smart and for the most part plays within his limitations. those are all good signs as far as intangibles go.
there really isnt much to say about him right now, unless you know something about his work ethic, what he's worked and how much he's improved on since the season ended.

Sweet, thanks for the video. That cleared up a lot of questions for me though my stance on him is still the same. I don't know, there is potential but he's extremely raw. It all comes down to his work ethic for me.

Dr Mufasa wrote:The comparison people are using are Wilson Chandler. I'd also throw in Kawhi Leonard.
He should be an athletic SF who can rebound, finish baskets on the break and should be a good motor and defensive effort guy. He probably needs to shoot better to be a long term starter but I think his rebounding and athleticism make him a guaranteed NBA player. He doesn't have quite the ball skills, IQ or shooting of MKG but I'd easily rather have him 20th than MKG 2nd
Harkless is on my shortlist for players that could be ranked outside of the top 20 2 weeks before the draft and then all of a sudden is going 7th or 8th because teams like players who are young and athletic and project as contributing to more of a defense/rebounding culture. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he goes above Harrison Barnes
You have not seen Harkless play. He definitely has more ball skills than MKG..just has a real knack for scoring and has competitve fire to him. i think hes the best small forward in this draft and my pick for steal of the draft..although its looking like he may go in the lottery.

Smart move by Golden State. When it's all said and done. Harkless will be top 10 in this draft.

I agree with this. Leonard and Wallace are straight up hustle guys. I don't know why people think of Harkless as that kind of guy. He gives great effort on both ends of the court and has some upside to boot on offense. I'm still looking for the right comparison. His fluidity makes me think about Kobe being more fluid than explosive even though both are still explosive. Please don't take that as me saying he is the next kobe.

Kobe was pretty damn explosive in his prime.

If he goes in the range he's projected to go, he'll be a big steal. Personally, I don't see many differences between him and MKG, and yet they're so far apart in mocks. MKG's probably a better passer, but Moe, unlike MKG, doesn't have a broken shot.

KN: Can you tell me more about your pre-draft workout routine? Tell me about an average Moe Harkless training day.
Moe Harkless: I wake up in the morning around 7:45 and go to eat breakfast. Then, the first thing to do is check with a trainer every morning and get weighed-in and if you have any injuries or anything then you get treatment. Our first workout is on the field. It's movement and speed training from nine until 11. Then, we go on the court from 11:30 until 12:45 or one o'clock and work on ball handling and stuff on the court, basically. Then, we eat lunch and normally we'll be back around four o'clock for mental training and vision training. Then, at five o'clock we have weights and at 6:30 we are on the court again until 7:45 or eight o'clock. After that, the day is pretty much over. I just relax until the next day.
KN: That's 12 hours every day?
Moe Harkless: Yeah, except for on Wednesday, when we do movement in the morning and basketball at night.

Re: Moe Harkless
That's encouraging news, although personally I would still like to see if he maintains this level of work ethic even after he gets drafted. There are players that work hard, but they do it in spurts and not consistently. Before the draft is when a lot of prospects are working super hard.

Re: Moe Harkless
Im starting to like him. He reminds me of a mix between to other Big East guys, Ebanks and Earl Clark in some ways. Hes got Clarks versatility and activity on defense and has the raw offensive tools like Ebanks. Hes much better mentally than both though and his BBIQ is more Clark than Ebanks.
His success could go either way right now, hes nowhere near a finished product, but because of solid character by evidence of his play at SJU this year, hes worth a risk anywhere directly after the lotto. Ultimately, I think a Trevor Ariza type is what we could be looking at.
Hes got the makings of a good defensive player and is smart enough to be a good complimentary piece on the wing. The fact that he stuck it out and St Johns and played hard is a good sign. He did as well as he could there, you have to consider he played out of position and with 5 other freshman so he has plenty of reasons why his numbers werent as great as they could have been. I admire the fact that he played team basketball on a team that sucked and had many other players playing selfishly.

Ive already heard his and Zeller's name mentioned post trade. Id still like to see Sullinger and Davis paired together if they feel his back is ok. Or even Kendall Marshall.

Stacey Augmon?
Tales of his work ethic are impressive but if he'd been putting in that kind of time for years he wouldn't need so much offensive development. To me he comes across as a guy that bought into what his agent says to do to maximize draft stock. I'm less confident the upside will be realized than a lot of you, but he's still a very solid option mid round as is.
