Jon Paul Morosi: Jays could be sellers at deadline

Post#1 » by polo007 » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:27 pm

The Toronto Blue Jays could become sellers at the upcoming trade deadline, according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports.com.

With five losses in their last six games, the Blue Jays are quickly falling down the AL East standings and Morosi believes GM Alex Anthopoulos could move players who might not fit into the team's long-term plan.

"They're not really in the mix right now," Morosi told Brady & Lang on Sportsnet 590 The Fan Thursday morning. "So, I would say the likes of (Edwin) Encarnacion, any bullpen piece and Kelly Johnson. Those are the types of guys that you could see get moved. The marginal value of winning 84 games over winning 77-78 games is fairly negligible."

With the team's inconsistent play and Brandon Morrow being placed on the disabled list, Morosi sees the Blue Jays slipping out of the playoff race.

"This year, a lot of things had to go right for the Blue Jays to contend realistically," Morosi explained. "Certainly Morrow staying healthy was one of them. That to me is a huge blow. Now it magnifies the pressure on the younger guys in the rotation. We're already seeing the cracks there in terms of what we'll see from Drabek or Alvarez in the second half."

The Blue Jays are 6.5 games behind the division-leading New York Yankees in the AL East. The team has a 31-32 won-loss record and currently sit in a fourth-place tie with the Boston Red Sox.

Maybe we could create a personalized thread for all of polo007's articles. Obviously the information is appreciated, but the board is getting pretty messy from all of them.

Maybe like a 'Blue Jays Media Articles Thread?'

Nah, it's not like stuff is flowing off the first page. There are only 5 threads that have been posted in today.

I have $40 on the Jays winning at least 82 games. We better not be sellers!

This isn't the Raps board. 5 threads in a day is a s***-ton.

+1

The guy doesn't know anything, he is always guessing. It's like he's just trying to drive traffic to the site.

Agree. Doesn't seem like enough traffic to be a concern. I appreciate new information on the boards.

Just my opinion.

If we trade Edwin this team will begin to be unwatchable and you know Jose would be pissed. Just seems like a really bad idea unless we get some sort of huge offer.

Really dumb to talk about this before the all-star break.

When our team sucks it is not really dumb to talk about it.

It is really dumb to stick your head in the sand.

Trading JP & Colby & KJ so we can bring up Travis Echa sketch and goose ain't gonna cut it.

He appears to hate AA and blames him for everything based on the prior post. I have no idea what he was trying to get across in the second one.

I don't hate AA, just think he should be fired tonight.

I would hope so. We were "sellers" last year at the deadline and landed Colby. We might be looking for another young controllable player.

Trading KJ/Edwin makes sense unless you want to pay them big bucks next year and not sign a FA.
