- Gay is a proven talent offensively. Contract is horrible. Defense is suspect.
- Iggy is 1.5 years shy of 30. His contract is also crappy, but I like his overall game.
- Lowry is far from an allstar.
Chandler is paid 1/3 of what Gay makes, 1/2 of what Iggy makes. He's a better defender than Gay. Similar scoring production as Iggy.
Overall, I think Chandler's contract is better value if you are trying to move forward building a team. Paying Gay 18 million per is going to kill our cap & not leave us any room to continue to build.
After adding a starting SF, we still need to add a PG an possibly a SG. We're gonna need that money.
I don't think taking on a huge contract is a good idea right now. Adding quality players, while maintaining financial flexability is the way to go if you're going to consider trading that draft pick. A Gay or an Iggy is not going to take this team anywhere except cash strapped.
Eventually, the hope is that most of the scoring production is going to come from our bigs. Andrea is going to be our main scoring threat for at least a couple of seasons (unless a trade such as the Rudy Gay one happens). The hope is that Jonas can eventually average 15ppg or more. You add shooters/ defenders on the wings & a PG that can penetrate & you've got a pretty strong team in a few years.
If you could somehow also pry Lawson away in that trade, then you have to strongly consider the trade.
Ed Davis, Bayless, 8th pick
For
Chandler, Lawson, 20th pick
You've got 2 potential young starters moving forward on very good contracts.
