Re: Tyrus Trades
oh the irony... bonnell was talking to silas about diaw and thomas before the game and this was said
yes, that is correct... silas just said that tyrus needs to #workharder.
Rick Bonnell @rick_bonnell
Silas says Diaw, Thomas have to "put it on themselves to work hard, give effort.'' (cont.)
Rick Bonnell @rick_bonnell
So when I ask Silas shouldn't that be a given, he replies, "I've been used to having guys who just normally work hard, give effort.''
yes, that is correct... silas just said that tyrus needs to #workharder.

Doesn't surprise me one bit that guys like Diaw and Thomas would benefit the most under a dictator like the Clown and then revert back to their lazy ways when it's left more to them to motivate themselves to work hard and improve.

It still turns my stomach that we have to lose a 1st round pick at some point because of that horrible trade with Chicago. It was a questionable trade back then. But signing him to the extension looks absurd. Oh well, live and learn.

I just wish Tyrus would get over these digestive problems and put some more weight back on, at least. Guy seriously does not look healthy, running around like Kate Moss out there.

Re: Tyrus Trades
I can't imagine any team trading for TT without a similar disaster heading back to Charlotte.
The contracts would have to be the same length in years. Even Charlie V, as bad as he is, has one less year on his deal. Why would Detroit take an extra year of salary without additional compensation?
Just amnesty TT and move on.

The worse part is that last years TT wasn't that bad. Worth the money, probably not, but still not THAT BAD, he had some use. Heck NJ apparently wanted to sign him, but now he is about as useful as Diop.

I asked if he's having the season he envisioned. He said he was not.
I asked what's wrong.
"You probably know as much as I do, maybe more," Thomas said. "You watch us."
I asked again: Why aren't you more effective?
Thomas said again that he didn't know.
Is he lost?
"No, I don't think so, not at all," said Charlotte coach Paul Silas.
Added Silas: "He and I talked. And I told him exactly what I wanted: defense; rebounding; blocked shots; shoot open shots. Because for a while he was turning down open shots. And now he's started shooting those again. So it's just a matter of him getting to what we need and doing that and he'll be fine."
Thomas is frustrating to watch because I've seen what he can do. There was a healthy disdain to his game.
I could write that Thomas is rich and lazy and doesn't care.
But the dry-erase board on the wall outside Charlotte's locker room suggests otherwise. There are notations next to the names of players representing types of workouts - and Thomas has as many as any Bobcat. Strength and conditioning coach Matt Friia stood there, marker in hand, after the Indiana game.
"Tyrus is one of the hardest workers on the team," said Friia. "He's getting stronger and is putting on some weight. He's had some knee soreness so we're trying to keep his legs stronger and keep his soreness away."
Will the second half be better for him?
"I don't know," said Thomas. "I don't have a crystal ball."
He didn't say this dismissively or sarcastically. He genuinely appears not to know.

Doesn't it take a year and a half to fully recover from a MCL tear?

Zach Randolph is apparently coming back from one in a much shorter time frame. They say he is working his a$$ off trying to be back ahead of, or just right at the scheduled time frame.

Re: #WorkHarder: The Tyrus Thomas Thread

Joseph Treutlein Is there anything to your game you can offer that we haven't seen at LSU?
Tyrus Thomas I have a lot to offer. You know, you guys like to say that I can't dribble and I can't shoot. That all I can do is dunk and block shots, but that's what was required of me for the team to win, and that's what I did. I could've easily played outside of the system, shot the ball and put the ball on the floor, but we were winning with what we were doing so that's what you stick to.
Joseph Treutlein We understand that, because a lot of times you don't get to fully feature what you can do in college, because of your role, you didn't get to show off some of that ball-handling and shooting.
Tyrus Thomas I let you guys tell it, especially DraftExpress, that I can't do it.
Joseph Treutlein Where do you think you'll be drafted?
Tyrus Thomas I'm not sure, I can't answer that. Where do you think I'll be drafted?
Joseph Treutlein I'm not sure either, you'd have to ask the teams.
Tyrus Thomas I mean, you guys write it, you guys say where we fit best, so you tell me.
Joseph Treutlein I'm not sure, it's hard to say, you'd have to be inside the team's perspective to know that for sure.
Tyrus Thomas Then why do you guys write stuff like that?
Joseph Treutlein I personally didn't write anything in particular.
Tyrus Thomas I'm just saying, you... don't regard this.
Joseph Treutlein If I'm a GM, why should I pick Tyrus Thomas? Sell me on you.
Tyrus Thomas You're not a GM, I don't have to sell myself to you. I mean, I don't know, just watch. GM's watch the game, so there's not much a player has to tell a GM. Because GM's have experience watching what a player is capable of doing and what he's not capable of doing, so I don't have to verbally sell myself to a GM.
Joseph Treutlein Do you think you're better suited to play small forward or power forward in the NBA?
Tyrus Thomas Small forward.

He does think quite highly of himself. I swear he's gotten worse since LSU, I remember watching him back then and seeing a much better ballhandler and somewhat better shooter. I wish we still had Oak to slap him around and get his ass back in the gym.

Re: #WorkHarder: The Tyrus Thomas Thread
if i remember correctly, a few draft sites, draft analysts had tyrus ranked as one of the top 2-3 prospects in the spring. however, draftexpress was never that high on tyrus and had him ranked around 7, which was the lowest of the draft sites. for some reason, this upset tyrus and he had it out for draftexpress leading up to the draft (as you can tell from this interview) that was about the same time that i was doing a little writing for dx. dx had a private board that i still had access to where they would discuss prospects. i vaguely remember reading some stories about this from the dx point of view.
ah... yes, its coming back to me now... dx had tyrus ranked lower than he and his agent wanted. they rescinded a workout invite for dx because they didnt like where dx had him ranked

Thomas’ Camp Concerned About Draft Stock, Mock Drafts
Tyrus Thomas’ agents Brian Elfus and Mike Siegel invited DraftExpress to attend a workout on Friday in Orlando, but have rescinded their invite due to differences in opinion regarding the draft stock of their star client. Citing (via text message) the fact that the Thomas camp is “not happy with [Draftexpress] having Tyrus 7th,” and saying that we “need to adjust that ASAP,” Elfus and Siegel have shut DraftExpress out of watching their client and possibly coming to a different conclusion.
DraftExpress never has and never will sacrifice our journalistic integrity by bowing down to demands of agents. We cannot allow our site to be manipulated in such a way that will hurt our credibility and detract from the many people who visit us to read our honest and professional opinion. If it’s at all possible to get access to a workout and do our job objectively the way our visitors have become accustomed to in the past, we will always jump on the opportunity.
DraftExpress will continue to evaluate Tyrus as an NBA prospect solely off the dozen or more times we watched him play on tape, as well as the practice and live game settings we’ve attended in person. Our professional opinion of his NBA potential has been stated many times, and is available for all to see through reading his extensive scouting report.
