Maybe Shaw just isn't that great. I doubt he knows as much about bball as someone like Dunlap with 3 decades of coaching experience at every level.

Thanks for the link Fats. This column passes the smell test, as the author's sources indicate a series of events that sound like they fit together. The most telling paragraph:

There had been indications that perception didn't meet reality in the coaching search. Charlotte had continued to tell candidates that, despite the fact that they weren't considered finalists, they weren't necessarily out of the running (former Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan and Cavaliers assistant Nate Tibbetts were in this group). Sources said Charlotte showed a reluctance to pay top dollar for the new coach, as was the case during exploratory talks with Warriors assistant Michael Malone before he was out of the mix. The Bobcats had unenviable challenges during the process, too, like the fact that Shaw preferred the vacant jobs in Portland and Orlando to theirs. And while Sloan took the high road in explaining to SI.com his decision to pull out, it didn't reflect well on all involved that a legend of the game headed home with a bad taste in his mouth (biting your tongue can have that effect, after all).

Again, I just hope the guy proves to be the right guy as a head coach. Bonnell's comment regarding developing the team to fit Kemba's talents makes sense, in that we really don't have a choice. Dunlap will have to develop what he's got plus add other talent to climb out of this hole..
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I got home from work last night at 2:00 and saw that we had hired Dunlap, but honestly I wasnt that shocked. I kind of saw a hire from left field coming, just wasnt sure who.

I think he will be an experiment for sure, but who knows we might have found our coach for the next ten years.

I hope so. I like the sound of building offense around Kemba, considering he had the ball 70% of the time he was on the floor last year anyways. I think he is our best offensive player so makes sense.

Now lets draft Beal and move Hendo to the three for this season until we add our future small forward. Then let Hendo become the sixth man after we get a SF in draft or Free agency.

Kemba
Beal
Hendo
Biz
Mully

That is a young team that can score and not horrible on defense. Let Mags be the scorer for second unit.

Or somehow get a second pick in late lottery and land Harkless and Beal.

Seriously all the haters are coming out today on this hire. When Dunlap turns out to be the next Thibs, and has the Bobcats in the playoffs in 2 years, and in the Conf finals in 4, I so want to keep a running diary of all the lazy hate being spewed today. I'm collecting every link and keeping them on my list... starting with Amick.

Give the plan a chance... is it outside the box? Sure. Is it better than hiring the same retreads over and over again? Absolutely. This is why we have Cho, because he is ballsy and patient enough to put a plan into place to win titles. And if he has a plan, let's put it in place and run with it. All the feet-draggers and haters can be left behind.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

The word in Indy was that Shaw ideally wanted Orlando or Portland, but that he really just wants the shot to be a head coach (very deservedly). Word was he would have taken the Charlotte job since they were hiring first.

As a Pacers fan, I'm sorry that I know we'll be losing Shaw. He deserves to be a head coach, and likely will in either Portland or Orlando.

This has already grown on me a lot. The initial shock of us not picking a frontrunner for the job and then picking someone I really had no idea was still in the running kind of pissed me off. It's looking like a pretty good pick.

Hopefully this is a start of a trend of us taking risks to build a nice roster. Maybe Cho will take another risk and select Drummond.......

I am with Dunlap for better or worse. If I can put up with last season, then I am behind the Bobcats no matter what. Looking forward to hearing what he has to offer tomorrow at the PC.

Shaws judgement than Orlando is a better job than ours makes me happy we didnt get him. I mean..did he totally miss what that Dwight Howard guy did to their last coach? You either have to deal with that psycho or trade him under value and....right where we are except a year behind...rebuilding.

If the guys are willing to buy in I have no doubt Dunlap knows more about Xs and Os than Shaw, because its obvious Dunlap is a basketball geek. The thing is...I don't see how anyone on our team could be adverse to buying into a new guys system and teaching given what they accomplished last year. Except Tyrus
Hopefully they've all been adequately humbled..

It's interesting the Drummond talk. I'm by no means a fan, but for some reason with Dunlap I almost feel more inclined to take Drummond. I've really started to level out on Drummond. I'll be very interested to see how the Robinson vs Drummond workout goes. I think that workout will determine who we pick.

Just MHO but Drummond will not work well with a "No BS" coach. Some guys respond well to that ... but those are typically the ones who are serious already. Drummond strikes me as more of a free spirit.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Drummond would mentally collapse under a no BS hard nosed coach.

Makes sense he would prefer that job over ours. Especially if they do deal Howard because there is a good chance it could bring back Gasol, Bynum or even both who he is familiar with. And they are familiar with the Triangle offense. Magic look like a team that could be successful with that offense with the shooters they have.

More Tweets from Karl today...this one referenced by the NYT:

"He followed with another post about Dunlap on Tuesday.

“Elated about Mike Dunlap going to Charlotte! To hire a guy of knowledge and character more than spin and perception makes me feel great!”"

So who do you think Georgie Boy was insinuating is a "guy" of spin and perception? :D
