you can't beat that offer because that's the most he can make on a new contract

It's the Gilbert Arenas rule. From Wikipedia:

Teams are limited from offering anything more than the average salary to a restricted free agent with two years or less experience.[9] A player's original team can use the Early Bird exception or their Mid-Level exception to re-sign the player.[4] This is named the "Gilbert Arenas Rule". In 2003, Gilbert Arenas signed a six-year, $60 million contract with the Washington Wizards after his original team, the Golden State Warriors, were unable to match the offer since they were over the salary cap.[10]

All Jazz fans should know this rule from the Wesley Matthews situation.

But lin isn't restricted. So it wouldn't apply to him. No?

He is a restricted free agent and the Knicks don't have early Bird rights on him, and he falls under the Gilbert Arenas rule, so the Knicks will have to use an exception to match an contract offer he gets.

Nelson is better shooter but Harris is definitely better pg, neither way there are some more interesting names on table like Mo Williams; Kyle Lowery we could try to get JJ barea as T'Wolves are so sold to Rubio.

All that late draft discussion is really interesting, Lillard is like poorer version of DWill, Marshal will definitely be a good pg at next stage, if there will be no chance to get such high draft picks maybe KoC will be able arrange some late 1 rd, so we could pick nba ready pg like Taylor or good prospect like Teague.

Minnesota is an interesting thought. What about Luke Ridnour?

Lin on our roster would've been great.... anyway, i don't see Utah spending a lot on a pg in the FA until we move Harris, or we slide him at the SG spot.

Last year the best passer was Tinsley, so i think we'll exercize the TO on him.

That means three pg on the roster, plus burks and Hayward that can handle the point (as for burks i'd explore tu use him more as a scoring point)
