Rashard Lewis' 23.8 million dollar contract can be bought out for 13.7 million before July 1st. Trade saves New Orleans around 30 million?

New Orleans now has unlimited cap space, in addition to the #1 pick, the #10 pick, and Eric Gordon. Not a bad time to be a Hornets fan

not a bad time to be a Hornets fan is right!
Mr Dew wrote:Even before I knew about Lewis' buyout, I thought you guys won this deal... with the buyout, you absolutely crushed Washington. What were they thinking??? And they threw in a 2nd rounder for good measure!

I really do think Ariza wants to be on the West Coast. Don't know how he's going to feel about being pushed even further away from the WC. But, oh well.

Overall Grades:
Hornets: A+: They clear cap enough cap space to buy a small country and get rid of two long-term contracts that did nothing for them. Okafor and Davis would have been a great shot-blocking pair, but the Hornets now have room to match any and all offers for Eric Gordon in restricted free agency and still have room to take on another contract in order to acquire a pick. They are set to build the right way in New Orleans.
Washington Wizards: D-: Well, at least they added a lot of money in getting two marginal players that don't necessarily compliment John Wall in any way. Ernie Grunfeld just got an extension. Yup, this is the NBA.

the Hornets certainly got the better of the deal in financial terms, but at least the Wiz got 2 legit bodies for mister DNP. they were stuck with the $$ obligations anyways, may as well get some production out of it, right?
I say viva la dump

You think the Hornets will select Lillard? I'll be so glad when draft night gets here to see what the Hornets do.

If he's still there, I feel they probably will.. Personally I'd rather have a PG like Marshall if I were taking Davis just because he'd be able to get him easy buckets and they would be a better fast-break team but I feel when drafting you should always go BPA, especially for a team like the Hornets that really just need as much talent as possible at this point.
Even if it's a guy like Dion Waiters that plays the same position as one of your young cornerstones players, always take who you think has the best chance of becoming the best player.. Even if he becomes a starting caliber player you'll always have the option of trading him.. Or if he's good enough, keeping him and trading Gordon (who is going to be on a much larger contract)..
Anyways.. If I were the FO.. BPA.. Period.

Just curious, with the rumors of N.O. moving the 10 pick and the Jazz dangling Millsap for a lotto pick, what are your thoughts on a Millsap for #10 plus player swap? Millsap is the definition of iron man and is the heart of the Jazz, but it may be time to move on. You'd love what he brings every single game! Even if he isn't filling the stat line, he always contributes. Great guy.
