AROUND THE NBA OFFSEASON MOVES
Thought we could use a place to discuss free agent signings and trades around the NBA.
Here's the first:
Jonathan Givony @DraftExpress
New Orleans trades Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza to Washington for Rashard Lewis and the #46 pick.
First thought is I like it for both teams. Wizards a playoff team?
Wall/Beal/Ariza/Nene/Okafor
Seraphin, Vesely, Singleton, Booker, Crawford to groom on the bench. Like it.

In the East? Most likely. Ariza and Okafor seem like good influences on the young players also, despite being overpaid.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Main reason that Wiz lose in this deal... making win-now moves with a win-later situation.

Very good point. I forgot about the lottery-maker.

Re: AROUND THE NBA OFFSEASON MOVES
I'd consider Rashard Lewis in a free agency. He's a low risk option who can really complement a lot of our players.

Rashard Lewis, Trevor Ariza, Emeka Okafor..
It's like a bad contract-a-palooza.

Re: AROUND THE NBA OFFSEASON MOVES
well I'm not sure about this
Washington upgraded their Roster, but they are still pretty much at best a 6th to 9th place in the East, and by doing this trade they logjamed their cap flexibility for at least 2 years
As for the Hornets, they will pretty much amnesty Lewis, but I'm not sure how attractive their team will be to the other free agents out there, despite their cap space
As for the Wolves, even if Lewis got cut, i would assume him to consider teams other than the Wolves first? Like a playoff-bound team and go for a championship maybe?

While it hinders their cap for a couple of seasons...i don't think they would be able to make much of a splash anyway. They still have Wall / Seraphin / Booker / Singleton / Veseley and Crawford for young guys...and I would think they HAVE to amnesty Blatche now that they will have a crowded frontcourt....if they snag Beal in the draft this team will be a very nice team.

Wall, Beal (or whoever they draft), and Seraphin all have big upside. *With proper coaching and development of those player, it wouldn't shock me to see this team get a #3 seed in two years. That roster looks pretty on par with Indiana to me.

Salaries
HORNETS
Rashard Lewis $22,699,551 ($13.7m guar.)
WIZARDS
Emeka Okafor - $13,490,000 / $14,487,500 (ETO)
Trevor Ariza - $7,258,960 / $7,727,280
This reminds me of the Wizards' win-now trade draft night 2009. Though, Hornets didn't get as good a deal as that other team

Since Rashard was going to cost $13.7M anyway, Washington basically got Okafor for $10M/year and Ariza for $5.5M/year. That's a pretty good deal for Washington if you ask me. At those prices I think their getting two pretty good players on market-level deals with little future commitment.

Re: AROUND THE NBA OFFSEASON MOVES
NO will have a hell of a lot of cap space once they release Lewis. They can rebuild with Davis, Gordon and whoever they draft at 10 with A LOT of flexibility.
I don't think Lewis will consider Minny, he'll be dying to go to a contender.

He'd be stuck behind that Lebron guy at SF and Bosh and Haslem at PF
