Draft workout question

Post#1 » by darbstar » Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:55 am

I just watched John Henson in his workout for Portland and he barely hit a shot and looked Terrible, and all the comments were how there is no way Portland will pick him, then I went to the sacremento kings forum and watched their workouts in which Henson made every shot and looked like a star. Everyone on their forum was commenting how good he looked and it looks like he is the man the kings will pick!

Do u think players screw up on purpose at workouts if they don't want to be picked by a certain team? Ie Henson would be backing up lma if he was picked by the blazers whereas he would be a starter if picked by the kings! Funny how different his two workouts were

Thoughts??

No doubt some players try to influence where they are picked by refusing to workout with certain teams or perhaps by altering their effort. I think that it is almost always just a case of small sample size though. We're looking only seeing 2-3 minutes of footage out of a half day of workouts.

I think it's also entirely possible that sometimes guys just have good days and bad days. That's one reason why you can't really take that much from individual workouts.

Don't think for one second Henson didn't miss any shots in his workout for the Kings. They just show the positive aspects on the Kings page. They have way more than enough info on the players they're working out, maybe besides Drummond, to gather a full picture of what they are and who they are. The Blazers need talent, drafting Henson for them wouldn't make much sense. The Kings need an athletic shotblocking 8 ppg, 8 rpg, 2.5 bpg type. He could always possibly be more than that as a talent, but the Kings have no use for that talent at the moment so if it's there, you won't see it much anyway other than spurts when it comes out. Basically you want to find a Jason Thompson type who can defend and block shots.
