You are right in that it is interesting, but unrealistic. Technically, it does not work on several levels - can't sign and trade Brooks - he was not on the roster last year. Memphis cannot afford to take on add'l $5-6MM for Pau versus Randolph.

But Lakers would be a more interesting team with a true stretch four such as Frye and a bullet fast pg like Brooks. Laker's actually tried to spread the floor a bit by putting Gasol on the perimeter more, Bynum was more comfortable, but Gasol looked lost. Randolph and Gortat would be an interesting combo, certainly more physical. But Suns would need a deep shooter at the 3. Do not know how the Gasol brothers would mesh in Memphis, but it might be OK.

Yeah, I just threw in that Brooks part because of the previous post I was responding to.....and I didn't work out trade logistics in my head....but we should get a preview of the Gasol bro's in the olympics, along with Ibaka. Now that is a pretty good frontcourt Spain will have.

Sporting News:

Point guard Goran Dragic in some ways is emblematic of this summer’s free-agent class—a player who has shown flashes of excellence but is far from established. He is 26 and has four seasons under his belt, but the first three of those years were packed with a handful of highs and many more lows. He started just eight games in those three years, averaged a career high of only 7.9 points in his second season and was traded to the Houston Rockets last year. With the Rockets, he was in a firm backup role to starter Kyle Lowry—until March 8, that is, when Lowry was hospitalized with a stomach virus.

That opened the starting job for Dragic, who had previously spent the bulk of his career backing up Steve Nash in Phoenix. Dragic started the final 26 games, and with the two starts he logged in January, his numbers as a starter showed how much he had developed, with averages of 18.0 points and 8.4 assists, while shooting 49.0 percent from the field, 37.9 percent on 3-pointers and 83.9 percent from the free-throw line. Now, as Dragic hits free agency, teams in the market for a point guard have to wonder how to pay him—will his contract be based on the small sample of games he started or on his overall body of work?

Goran Dragic, most recently of the Houston Rockets, wants to be a team's No. 1 point guard but has had an up-and-down career so far. (AP Photo)
Dragic told Sporting News that his preference is to stay in Houston, and the Rockets would like to keep him. “That is what I would want to have,” Dragic said. “I really like the Rockets, it is a great organization. I really liked playing for Kevin McHale. He’s a great coach, great guy. He was a player so he has had a lot of experience. He helped a lot with me this season, taught me how to run a team. I hope that in the future, I am still going to be with him.”

There is probably some diplomacy in that answer, though, because Dragic also got a taste of starting, and in that time, showed that he had addressed some of the weaknesses that weighed him down in Phoenix, especially his ability to be vocal and organize his team. Dragic does not want to be a backup again, but with Lowry on board, that would be his role with the Rockets.

“Definitely, I want to be a starter in the NBA,” Dragic said. “I think I showed I can do it. I am really happy I got the opportunity to show what I can do and that I belong here. Still, you know, hopefully next year I am going to run the team. I know I can be a first point guard – it is something I can do.”

Assuming that is not Houston, a source told Sporting News, Dragic could wind up in a familiar surrounding anyway—back in Phoenix. Should the Suns lose Nash in free agency, Phoenix is expected to make a push to re-sign Dragic and give him the reins in coach Alvin Gentry’s offense. That would suit Dragic.

“I learned a lot in Phoenix, I had a very good time there,” he said. “I don’t know what is going to happen, but that is an organization I know, obviously, and they helped me a lot.”

What if the Suns aren't planning on rebuilding? They are looking to sign Williams or Dragic??! Keep Gortat and draft Lamb or Ross (no need for Rivers with Draic or Williams).....well maybe even run Rivers next to Goran?!

Dragic will get $10M-type money. Deron will start at $16M. That $6M will mean a lot going forward and Williams' contract will increase by much more each season.

PG - Dragic / Telfair
SG - #13 /
SF - Dudley / Childress
PF - Morris / Frye / Warrick
C - Gortat / Lopez

Still leaves the Suns with about $10M in cap space (which I don't think we spend this offseason - we should wait). But alas, I am only a RealGM, not the ActualGM.....

Where is Brooks?
Amnesty Chilly

I'm cool with that....I would like to pick up PJ3 by using Brooks, and get Beasley with Frye somehow.

Dragic/Telfair
Lamb/Duds
Beasley/Duds
PJ3 (Brooks trade)/Kief
Gortat/Lopez

That's a long athletic team right there, with three people who could create their own shot :D

See, I think the FO waits one more year before amnestying Childress. Just no need to create that additional cap space this year - especially if Childress getting some burn drastically improving his tradability.

Plus, although I think Beasley would be a nice scoring wing - I just wouldn't offer him the contract. We're not going to be good anyway - we might as well preserve cap space for an actual star the following free agency.

Stay far away from Dragic at $10M/year. Trust me, you will regret it almost immediately. Paying him anything more than $6M or $7M/year is financial suicide. I wouldn't give him more than the MLE.

$10M for Goran frickin Dragic? Are you serious? IMO everything over $5M per year is an overpay for Dragic.

I can guarantee you he get's more than the MLE - and $10M for your starting PG is reasonable, if you think he's starting calibre.

Great trade! Can you post it on the trade board? It would be interesting to see what other people (fans of the teams included in deal) think about it.

Looks like Dalembert and the 16th pick are being traded. That could be a solution for either NO or Por at center.

Or the way we get another 1st round pick, Gortat for Dally and 16. Steve comes back to play with fellow Canadian, if anyone can get anything out of Dally its Nash. Add Nash to Dallys game and I think his and Gortats ofense is a push, but Dally plays WAY better defense. Do the Trade, re-sign Nash, Draft Rivers or Waiters and Perry Jones, sign Garnett. Nash, Rivers/Waiters, Jones, Garnett (makes everyone play harder instantly) Dally.

1:46pm: SI.com's Sam Amick (Sulia link) suggests the Rockets are shopping Dalembert and a first-rounder in an attempt to move up in the draft, rather than to acquire a veteran.

Yea no way I'm giving up #13 for freaking Dalembert!

Sounds like a deal Portland could think about...they've talked about trading 11 for a vet. They need a center. They could still take Lillard at 6 and get a project center to learn behind Dalembert for a year at 16 (or take a sg that falls).
